The Heart of Ida The Heart of Ida supports Long Beach seniors in need with programs and services that sustain independence and connection within their community.

The Heart of Ida envisions a community where every senior has the support they need to live independently and thrive, including feeling heard, appreciated, connected, cared for, and safe. Heart of Ida was founded in 2008 by sisters Dina Berg and Keri Reich in honor of their beloved grandmother, Ida. Ida modeled service to low-income, isolated older adults, and the sisters carried on her legacy by

establishing Long Beach’s only 501c3 exclusively serving the older adult population. Heart of Ida leads an extraordinary person-centered approach to vulnerable adults by partnering with volunteers, city, and community organizations.

📣 Calling all Long Beach seniors! Ready to get creative, connect with others, and learn fun ways to reduce waste? ♻️✨

Join us every Friday from 10 AM – 1 PM for at The Long Beach Senior Center! Together we’ll transform everyday materials into creative projects while learning simple ways to reuse, repurpose, recycle, and compost.
Did you know? 📄
About 100 billion plastic bags are used each year in the U.S., yet only around 2% are recyclable via store drop off programs, and because plastic can take up to 1,000 years to decompose, it often pollutes landfills, oceans, and rivers where it harms wildlife and even the fish we eat. Help reduce plastic waste by turning an old T-shirt into a reusable bag and making a simple change that benefits the environment.

💻✨ Goodwill SOLAC X Heart of Ida (HOI) Empowering Older Adults Through Digital Inclusion & Workforce Development!

Heart of Ida is proud to collaborate with the Goodwill Southern Los Angeles County Career Center & SOLAC Workforce Development Team on an important initiative focused on supporting older workers in Long Beach.

⭐️Through a series of recent Discovery Sessions, older adults in Long Beach had the opportunity to share their experiences, challenges, and needs in today’s workforce. These small-group conversations help create a better understanding of what older workers need to feel supported, confident, and empowered as they navigate employment and career opportunities.

As part of our efforts, Heart of Ida also helped connect seniors with IBM SkillsBuild, an amazing free online learning platform where older adults can build digital skills, explore new areas of learning, and strengthen their confidence using technology. 💻📚

📣Calling all Long Beach Seniors!!

The City of Long Beach has launched the Older Adult Shallow Subsidy Program, a new homelessness prevention initiative that will provide rental assistance and housing support to low-income older adults on fixed incomes

⭐️ Applications are now open. Early application is encouraged, as funds are limited. The application will close once all participant slots are filled.
