Public Statement from the Board of Directors of the LGBTQ Center Long Beach - August 12, 2026
Our mission is to create spaces where LGBTQ+ people feel safe, seen, and supported. While the LGBT Center is facing budget and staff changes, we also have a resilient community working together to ensure everyone has access to affirming resources, advocacy, and care.
The Center's health clinic remains open and is serving patients. We recently added a new physician and nurse practitioner to the team to strengthen and grow our health services. We continue to offer the full range of sexual health services our community counts on, including HIV prevention services, rapid HIV testing, STI testing and treatment, PrEP and PEP, and reproductive health and contraceptive services, including birth control counseling and prescribing. There has been no interruption to these core services.
Gender-affirming care is a pilot program and remains an important part of our vision for comprehensive health services. Consistent with our commitment to continuity of care, every current patient continues to receive uninterrupted, physician-supervised care through a partner clinic. As we expand our health services, we are working toward growing this program. In the meantime, transgender and nonbinary community members remain supported through the Center's legal services, mental health services, and peer support groups.
We are grateful to all staff members who have served, and continue to serve, our community. As a smaller nonprofit, we respect and support staff members as they explore new opportunities that align with their professional goals.
Our commitment going forward is to maintain well-supported clinical staffing and the infrastructure our providers and patients deserve.
We remain committed to our community and to partnering with organizations and local leaders to build a safer, more inclusive future for all.
