What a way to wrap up another great Summer of Architecture tour!
A huge thank you to Stephen Sutton for leading one of the city’s coolest tours—the Lost Railway Tour through Bluff Heights. Stephen took guests along the Broadway corridor, uncovering traces of Long Beach’s lost railway history while sharing plenty of neighborhood stories and historic treasures along the way.
Thank you also to Hot Stuff and Jug Band Coffee & Tea for welcoming our tour groups and reminding us how much great local history and great local businesses go hand in hand.
And one more thank you to Stephen Sutton for all of these fantastic photos! Every organization needs a Stephen Sutton!!

We love seeing history inspire the next generation of storytellers! A talented group of CSULB film students is creating a 10-minute historical drama for their senior thesis, and they’ve been working with Long Beach Heritage throughout the summer to help bring their vision to life.
Join them for their upcoming film fundraiser at The Bembridge House, learn more about the project, meet the filmmakers, and help support these young creatives as they turn a piece of history into film.

Another Historical Downtown Bike Tour is in the books!

This popular annual Summer of Architecture tour was led by Chris Hogan, President of Long Beach Heritage, taking riders through the streets of Long Beach to discover the history, architecture and stories we sometimes pedal right past.

And there’s no better finish line than The Bembridge House! Riders ended their morning with refreshments and a tour of the historic home — a pretty great reward after a morning on two wheels.

Thank you to Chris, our volunteers and everyone who joined us for the ride. We love seeing this tour fill up year after year!

What a cool afternoon at the Historic Long Beach Airport Terminal!

Today’s Summer of Architecture tour gave us a closer look at one of Long Beach’s great architectural treasures — the beautifully restored 1941 Streamline Moderne terminal and Long Beach Heritage Preservation Award winner.

A big thank you to John Thomas for leading us through the history, architecture and details of this remarkable building, and to everyone who came out to explore it with us. It’s pretty special getting to slow down and really look at a place so many of us usually hurry right past on our way to a flight.

And Summer of Architecture isn’t finished yet!

Long Beach Heritage was pleased to attend the ribbon-cutting for the newly remodeled solarium at the historic Cooper Arms building.

What a beautiful transformation! The space has been thoughtfully refreshed while retaining the character that makes the Cooper Arms so special. Even more impressive, the needed renovations were completed without requiring additional funds from residents. Now that’s something worth celebrating.

Congratulations to everyone who helped make this project a success.

And now for the important question… who’s ready for a game of snooker?

Join Long Beach Heritage and Bluff Heights Neighborhood Association for the Lost Railway Tour
Long Beach was once part of the most sophisticated electric railway ever built: The Pacific Electric. "Railway Street," now known as Broadway, was one of the first railway spurs after arriving in Long Beach (from Los Angeles) on July 4th ,1902.

Saturday, August 29th
10am-Noon

Our docent-led walking tour will explore early 20th Century history of Bluff Heights while strolling from Redondo to Junipero. The tour will end around lunchtime with refreshments and a light picnic social at Bixby Park during Saturday's farmers'

Bluff Park is full of beautiful homes—but the stories behind them are even better.

This Summer of Architecture, spend a morning exploring one of Long Beach’s most celebrated historic neighborhoods on a special docent-led walking tour presented with the Bluff Park Neighborhood Association.

With 20+ stops and more than a century of architecture, you’ll see everything from early Craftsman homes to Spanish and Mediterranean Revival, Tudor, Streamline Moderne and Mid-Century Modern.

But this isn’t just a look-from-the-sidewalk tour. Hear about oil fortunes, Hollywood connections, neighborhood preservation battles and the people who left their mark on Long Beach. Along the way, guests will also be welcomed into select backyards and interiors rarely open to the public.
