One year ago, University of Kentucky student, Laken Snelling, was arrested on several charges that involved the death of her newborn son. When officers arrived at Snelling’s off-campus home in August of 2025, they located an infant, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Snelling allegedly hid her dead infant in her closet after giving birth. She was specifically charged with the abuse of a co**se, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant. Initially, Snelling pleaded not guilty, but on August 21st, she pleaded guilty before Fayette County Circuit Court Judge Diane Minnifield.

Snelling pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and three other charges in connection with the death of her newborn son. In court, she admitted, “I was under a lot of emotional stress and my baby came unexpectedly… and instead of helping him, I ended his life.” On October 16th, there is a scheduled sentencing hearing for Snelling.

This gut-wrenching story is the result of a culture that for far too long treated the preborn as nothing more than a collection of cells. That worldview, which devalues human life is what lead to Snelling’s decision to end the life of her newborn child. She saw her son as a problem, not a person.

Furthermore, this story should never have happened. In Kentucky, for mothers in crisis, there are options. There are at least 68 hospital-grade safe haven “baby boxes” across the state where mothers can safely and anonymously surrender their newborns if they are unable to provide proper care for their child. These baby boxes allow mothers to ensure the safety of their child and give the beautiful gift of life to them. This story reminds us of the important work still ahead of us in the fight to protect life. We need to cultivate a culture that honors human life from the point of conception until natural death.

LET US PRAY…

Father, empower us to speak the truth about the dignity and value of every human being, so that our culture may honor life at every stage. Lord, please use this very disturbing situation for good, and to change our culture’s worldview into one where life is cherished. Father, please help mothers in crisis to use the baby boxes throughout Kentucky so that these babies in need may be safe and experience the gift of life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

It’s that time of year again! As summer break comes to an end, students across Kentucky are heading back to school for another year. Some students’ lives are changing drastically as they begin their very first school year. Others are entering a new grade, and still others are beginning their final year before graduation.

Whatever stage they are in, each student is entering a new chapter of their young life and with that comes a mixture of excitement and nervousness. Parents have these emotions as well, as they lovingly guide their children through all the challenges and triumphs that the school year will hold. But through it all, praise God that He is our rock and steady anchor.

Across the Commonwealth, from Pikeville to Paducah, Kentucky classrooms are filling up — public, private, and homeschool alike. Teachers, principals, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, and coaches will spend many hours with our children, and they need our prayers just as much as the students do.

May students and parents, teacher and coaches, alike, commit this school year to the Lord. May they seek Him wholeheartedly as we know that those who seek Him in all things “lack no good thing” (Psalm 34:10). Our gracious God can use all things, including this school year, to shape believers, and mold us more into the image of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 3:18).

LET US PRAY…

Father, please bless and protect every student who is starting a new school year, whether they attend a public school, a private school, or are homeschooled. Lord, we place our children into Your hands, that You may guide them in Your paths. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Scripture calls parents to train their children in the instruction of the Lord. A new education tax credit is giving KY opportunity to do just that.

“Keep far from a false charge, and do not kill the innocent and righteous, for I will not acquit the wicked.” – Exodus 23:7

There is a legal battle ensuing right now that has gripped the nation between a surrogate mother named McKenna West and the biological parents, Nausheen Gilkar and Omar Ahmed, who live in Los Angeles. The legal battle revolves around the birth of “Baby Gabriel” and who will have legal custody of the child. McKenna, who was living in Alaska, was contracted by the couple to be the surrogate mother through IVF. At a 20-week ultrasound, doctors diagnosed the baby with hypoplastic left heart syndrome — a serious congenital heart defect, but one that is treatable with surgery.

McKenna claimed the California parents, after hearing the news, demanded she have an abortion. McKenna refused, and because of this the parents filed a lawsuit against her. McKenna then connected with Lila Rose of Live Action. Rose helped get McKenna and “Baby Gabriel” to Texas, where they would be protected, and the baby could receive the medical care he needed.

On August 12th, McKenna gave birth to “Baby Gabriel,” who received the life-saving care he needed due to an emergency court order from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Due to a separate California court order, “Baby Gabriel” was immediately taken from McKenna and placed in the physical custody of the California parents. McKenna is challenging the California court order, claiming she is the birth mother under Texas law, and seeking to overturn the California ruling.

This case reminds us of what happens when humanity departs from God’s design: moral chaos ensues and the image of God is desecrated. IVF and surrogacy bring inherent moral risk that can turn children into commodities instead of gifts. Baby Gabriel’s biological parents saw him as a product they purchased, not a life that was created. That’s why when they found out he had a heart defect they wanted him aborted. It wasn’t what they ordered.

Yet, now that he’s born, the woman who saved his life and carried him for nine months has no rights to him. There aren’t words adequate to capture this moral chaos. But outside of God’s created order, trouble always exists.

Despite how he was conceived, we should praise God that “Baby Gabriel” was born. It doesn’t matter how someone is conceived; every human is made in the image of God and precious in His sight. But hopefully “Baby Gabriel’s” birth will open people’s eyes to the wild west of the entire IVF and surrogacy industries in the United States.

Father, we praise You that “Baby Gabriel” was not aborted and is receiving the critical medical care he needs. Lord, may this unfortunate situation be a catalyst for rethinking the practice of IVF and surrogacy throughout our nation. Father, may our nation honor You and flourish by living under Your good design. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
