Colorful and exciting things are afoot in the District, as PRHBTN once again brings muralists into the community to bring a touch of art. This year, the DLMD is proud to provide PRHBTN one of our public art grants, which supports this work taking shape at 139 W. Short Street.

There are no fewer than FOUR active projects taking place in downtown Lexington right now that have been named as DLMD Property Improvement Grant recipients.

Lighting and sidewalk improvements at the Lexington Children's Theatre, facade improvements at 135/137 N. Limestone, lighting and streetscape upgrades at 300 W. Vine, and new walkway awnings at 325 W. Main are all made possible in part by grants from the Downtown Lexington Management District.

Improvements are being made in the downtown corridor! Per the City of Lexington, Ky - Government, a new raised crosswalk is coming to West Short Street, which will reduce collisions and improve safety by making pedestrians more visible and reducing traffic speeds.

The new raised crosswalk will be installed at the intersection of West Short and Market Streets. From Monday, Oct. 5 – Friday, Oct. 16, West Short Street will have one lane closed for 24 hours at a time to allow concrete work. Active work hours for the project are weekdays from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Drive carefully and watch for flaggers in construction areas. In addition to the installation of the raised crosswalk, the intersection will be milled, paved and restriped.

We're fortunate to have passionate leaders serving on the DLMD Board, including 3rd District Councilmember Tom Eblen, who was honored with the Isabel Yates Community Champion Award by Celebrate Lexington on September 10th. We're grateful for his continued commitment to community.

Yesterday, Thursday, Sept 10, I was honored to be given the Celebrate Lexington Isabel Yates Community Champion award.

Celebrate Lexington does great work for environmental innovation, urban forestry, beautification efforts, and more. They also do a great job of bringing organizations together to collaborate on community-enhancing and problem-solving projects throughout Lexington and Fayette County.

TEN YEARS AGO TODAY, our amazing DLMD Ambassadors began to help us enhance downtown Lexington through their cleaning, beautification, and security efforts. A decade later, we still can't thank them enough for all they do for downtown.

Happy 10-Year Anniversary, Ambassadors! Here's to another ten of making downtown Lexington cleaner, safer, and better.
