Every day, Idalia hears from families whose loved ones have been detained by immigration: "How do I explain this to my child?"

Thanks to an anonymous donor and our friends at Wildlings Bookshop, we're providing bilingual children's books to help families talk about the painful experience of losing a loved one to immigration detention.

These books are the first part of our new care initiative. Each care package will include the following:
💙 A bilingual children's book
🛒 Grocery and gas gift cards
📋 A list of trusted community resources and other goodies

Because no family should have to navigate this journey alone.

Stay tuned for volunteer opportunities and ways you or your business can help us provide care packages to families across Kentucky. Together, we can remind our neighbors that they are not alone 💙❤️💛

Some days, justice feels painfully out of reach.

In the face of grief and uncertainty, we return to what has always sustained us: community.

Katie's work is possible because of the many people who support and believe in our mission. She is a fierce advocate for all of our immigrant neighbors! Read more about her work in securing due process!

We've been thinking a lot about the tragic shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo by agents on Tuesday.

His death is a sorrowful reminder of the urgency and significance of our network's efforts to free immigrant clients from ICE custody and detention.

As an asylum seeker with humanitarian parole, Ramiro came to his local ICE office in Chicago for his routine check-in.

There he was immediately handcuffed, arrested, and transported 500 miles away to a remote detention center in Kentucky—far from his support system of family, church, and community and with no access to legal counsel.

Luckily, his family found Katie Taylor, legal director for Neighbors Immigration Clinic—our ILJ affiliate in Kentucky.

Katie immediately recognized that Ramiro had a strong habeas case. His two-year parole had not yet expired, nor had it been formally revoked. His detention had been unlawful, and Katie could—and would—file a habeas petition to prove it.

🚨🚨Importante Mensaje Bilingüe / Important Bilingual Message - English below🚨🚨

🚨 Know Before You Drive

We've seen an increase in immigrants being detained after traffic stops for driving without a valid driver's license, especially in counties that participate in the 287(g) program. These agreements allow some local law enforcement agencies to work with ICE on certain immigration enforcement activities.

If you live, work, or travel through a 287(g) county:
🚗 Be extra cautious.
🤝 If possible, ride with someone who has a valid driver's license.
📋 Have a plan and know your rights before an emergency happens.
Near Fayette County, we have two neighboring counties, Clark and Scott, that participate in 287(g).

Review our Know Your Rights guide to learn what to do if you're stopped at a traffic checkpoint.

To report immigration enforcement activity, call the Neighbors Immigration Clinic Community Defense Hotline at 859-287-4316.

The Supreme Court's decision on birthright citizenship is a powerful reminder of the work still ahead of us and how much more we must fight for a just immigration system.

This decision is worthy of a celebration 🎊 🎊

However you decide to spend the holiday weekend, we at Neighbors are celebrating by sharing our favorite immigrant-owned businesses with the community.

This weekend is also a reminder of the freedom, commitment, and love our immigrant community brings to this country.

Check out our guide to some of our favorite spots across Kentucky. Whether you're looking for dinner, jewelry and trinkets, a photographer, or a sweet treat, we promise you won't be disappointed!

We did it!! 🎉 We are thrilled to be the recipients of Community Champions with a $15,000 grant! This funding will be directed towards Lexington residents; our neighbors who need immigration legal counsel. Because of this grant, we will be able to cover the consultation fees of 300 Lexington families. Not only that, we are also committed to continuing to educate our Lexington community with more Know Your Rights sessions. We are so grateful for the growth and for those who are showing up for our immigrant neighbors.
