The Children's Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass is a healing place for sexually abused children.

The Children's Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass is a nonprofit organization that seeks to reduce the trauma experienced by sexually abused children. The organization coordinates the investigation of child sexual abuse cases in the 17-county Bluegrass Region of Central Kentucky. The Children's Advocacy Center employs specially trained forensic interviewers, operates a full medical clinic to conduct sexual abuse examinations, and offers victim counseling and advocacy support to begin the healing process. All services are provided in a nurturing, friendly and safe environment at no cost to a child's family. CAC also provides education and training to improve community response to child sexual abuse.

CAC of the Bluegrass had a fantastic morning as we welcomed several community partners at our Center for a special topics training here at the CAC.

Our Clinic Coordinator and SANE AA/PA, Lauren Besednjak, led an in-depth training on the CAC medical program to strengthen community partners’ understanding of the medical evaluation process for children following suspected sexual abuse, and its essential role in a coordinated, multidisciplinary response.

This training was made possible thanks to the support of the Kentucky Bar Foundation. Thank you to those who attended!

It has been an incredibly busy month at the Center, and Lindsey has shown incredible flexibility and collaboration by covering additional interviews. Thank you, Lindsey, for putting the needs of the children and families we see first.

Not only is Winn dedicated to putting the needs of the children and families we serve first, but he also strives to make sure that our staff are cared for. We are grateful for his leadership!

Today is Purple Thursday! CAC of the Bluegrass staff are wearing purple today to show our support for survivors of domestic violence.

CAC of the Bluegrass has celebrated a couple of therapy graduations recently!

Being a therapy graduate means that a child has completed an average of 12-16 weeks of trauma-informed therapy where they focus on healing following abuse. To symbolize their strength and the bright futures they have ahead, our therapist gives them a copy of "Oh, the Places You'll Go!".

Graduates are also given the opportunity to place their handprint on our therapy mural. Our staff loves seeing new handprints on the wall!
