What a wonderful evening last night at the historic Old Louisiana Governor's Mansion celebrating another important part of Louisiana's rich arts and cultural heritage! A special thank you to Dr. Sinella Aghasi and her incredible staff for hosting another great evening showcasing Louisiana and, more importantly, our state's contributions to the film industry. Former Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne took us on a wonderful trip down memory lane, highlighting 75 films that were filmed right here in Louisiana!

From the bayous and small towns to our historic downtowns, plantations, and larger cities, Louisiana has provided the backdrop for some of Hollywood's most memorable productions. It was a great evening of memories, storytelling, and recognizing just how much our state has contributed to the motion picture industry.

Many people may not realize is that Louisiana's film industry is much more than celebrities and movie cameras. The Louisiana Motion Picture Production Tax Credit has helped provide employment opportunities for countless Louisiana artists, actors, musicians, technicians, craftspeople, and other creative professionals. Just as importantly, the economic impact of these productions reaches far beyond the film sets, supporting local businesses, restaurants, hotels, and services, including those in our rural communities across the state.

The Louisiana Partnership for the Arts continues to advocate for recognizing our arts and cultural industries as important economic drivers for Louisiana. Film is another great example of how investing in the creative economy creates jobs, supports our communities, and showcases everything that makes Louisiana unique!

Thank you again to everyone who made this wonderful evening possible. Louisiana has so many stories to tell, and what better place to tell them than right here at home!

When we drive through SWLA, most of us don't notice the vestiges of the Cajun Prairie. It's hard to imagine that the pastures, ponds, and fields we pass were once a 2.5 million-acre tallgrass coastal prairie teeming with life so thick that it was hard for our ancestors to drive a wagon through it.

Brought to you by Woodside Energy, the aim of this exhibit is to reconnect us to our natural heritage that gave rise to our cultural heritage. Explore how natural elements reveal the small parts that run the grand prairie ecosystem and connect how our culture sprang from it.

This traveling exhibit will be on display until Saturday, November 7th. To learn more about the Cajun prairie, don't miss the free screening of 𝘓𝘰𝘶𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘴 𝘙𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘴 at Central School Arts & Humanities Center (809 Kirby St) on Sunday, November 8 at 3:00pm!

📍 1st floor of Historic City Hall Arts & Cultural Center (1001 Ryan St)
⏰ Gallery hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 10AM-6PM

Louisiana is known around the world for its incredible food, music, culture, and, most importantly, the fellowship that brings us all together! This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending Banners at McNeese State University's Rouge et Blanc, a wonderful culinary and spirits fundraiser supporting Banners at McNeese State University Cultural Season.

What a great celebration of Louisiana's rich culinary heritage and the artistry behind the food and flavors that make our state so unique! Events like Rouge et Blanc remind us that Louisiana's arts and culture extend far beyond the stage, galleries, and museums. Our culinary traditions are an art form in itself and our culinary artists create amazing masterpieces passed down through generations and bringing people together through great food, music, storytelling, and fellowship.

It was also a pleasure to spend time with McNeese State University President Dr. Mike Reese and Banners Executive Director Dr. Brooke Hanemann, who also serves as Board President of the Louisiana Partnership for the Arts.

Congratulations to the entire Banners at McNeese team and the Arts supporters of SWLA for continuing to celebrate, preserve, and promote the arts and cultural experiences that enrich our communities and make Louisiana such a special place to call home!
