Louisiana voters didn’t reject government funding outright on May 16. They rejected sweeping fiscal redesign, vague promises, and long-range political bargains built on uncertain assumptions. Their message was clear: Show results. Provide accountability. Offer a vision, not more promises.

Louisiana voters rejected sweeping fiscal restructuring while supporting familiar local funding measures with clear purposes and accountability.

Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, the battle over Louisiana’s congressional districts has now entered the remedial phase.

After the Court invalidated the so-called “Cleo map,” the Louisiana Senate adopted SB121 as its proposed remedy. However, disagreement remains between the State and the plaintiffs over whether SB121 adequately cures the constitutional concerns identified by the Court.

Attorney Paul Hurd, plaintiff counsel, has released an alternative congressional proposal that is expected to be presented during the next phase of the litigation.

The first image below is the newly released remedial proposal expected to be advanced by the plaintiffs. The second is the current SB121 map adopted by the Senate.

Another Youngsville police termination has now been overturned by a court. But the ruling is only part of a much larger problem involving missing oversight records, conflicting sworn statements, and growing questions about credibility inside the department.

Court records, sworn affidavits, and civil service testimony paint a troubling picture inside the Youngsville Police Department.

A February investigation into missing opioid settlement funds in New Iberia led to something unexpected: questionable supplemental pay classifications, missing certification records, retroactive paperwork, executive sessions, and multiple officials now removed or under review.

This is why our work providing independent oversight matters.

Hand-counting every ballot sounds like common sense—until someone actually tries it. Louisiana is moving toward real election transparency, and it starts with paper ballots, not bumper sticker slogans.

Sheriff Mark Garber warned Lafayette Parish of a growing jail funding crisis. Then LCG took him up on his challenge to “re-analyze” the numbers. The results were… illuminating. From a $43 million surplus to statutory obligations quietly shifted onto taxpayers, the Sheriff’s narrative began unraveling the moment someone finally checked the math.

Sheriff Mark Garber warned of a jail funding crisis. Then Lafayette discoveries raise serious questions about surplus funds, statutory obligations, and a failed bluff.

Local elections may be administered at the parish level, but their consequences reach far beyond it. In this guest op-ed, State Rep. Lauren Ventrella argues that secure elections require more than debate over policy and procedure — they require sustained investment in the systems and people responsible for carrying them out.
