🍎 HUNGER IS CLOSER THAN YOU THINK.

When we talk about food insecurity, it can be easy to picture someone else—someone we don’t know, someone in a different neighborhood, someone facing circumstances completely different from our own.

But hunger is happening right here in our community.

📊 In La Crosse County, 11.7% of people experienced food insecurity in 2023. That’s roughly 1 in every 9 people who may not have had consistent access to enough nutritious food. Across Wisconsin, the rate was 11.8%.

And food insecurity doesn’t always look the way we expect. It can be a working parent choosing between groceries and a utility bill. A senior stretching a fixed income. A child relying on school and after-school programs for meals and snacks. A family facing an unexpected expense that throws an already-tight budget off balance.

That’s why the work of the Hunger Task Force of La Crosse matters. We work with local farms, grocery stores, businesses, community organizations and generous neighbors to rescue good food and make sure it reaches the 128 partner programs throughout the Coulee Region that help feed our community.

💚 Hunger is local. And so is the solution.

Every food donation, financial gift, volunteer hour and food drive helps make sure our neighbors have access to the food they need.

Together, we can make sure that fewer people in our community have to wonder where their next meal is coming from.

🚐💚 He may only be 8, but he is MIGHTY… and determined!

Remember Jake and his birthday wish to fill a U-Haul with food donations? Well, he did it—and then some!

This amazingly sweet boy brought in more than 600 POUNDS of food from his birthday party! 🥫🎉

What started as one little boy’s big idea turned into an incredible outpouring of generosity from his family, friends, and community. Watching this story unfold has been truly beautiful, and Jake has shown us that you don't have to be big to make a BIG difference.

Please join us in giving Jake a HUGE thank you for choosing to make his birthday about helping others. 💚

Jake, you filled that U-Haul—and you filled our hearts, too. We are so proud to have you in our Hunger Task Force family! 🥹💚

💚⚡We’re shining the spotlight on Dairyland Power Cooperative, our Super-Awesome Fight Summer Hunger Sponsor! 🎉

Dairyland Power Cooperative helps keep our communities powered up by generating and delivering electricity across the Upper Midwest. ⚡ But they’re also helping keep our communities fed and fueled! 💚 We’re so grateful for their support of our work to make sure children, families, seniors, and individuals throughout the Coulee Region have access to the food they need.

We like to think of them as experts in keeping the lights on AND helping us keep the shelves stocked! 😉⚡🥫

Thank you, Dairyland Power Cooperative, for being a Super-Awesome sponsor and for powering up our efforts to fight summer hunger! Your support makes a real difference. 💚

📣 Today may be the last day of Fight Summer Hunger, but we still have work to do!

Hunger doesn’t take a break when a campaign ends, and neither do we. You can continue supporting our work 24/7 online at lacrossehtf.org/donate/.

Prefer to give by cash or check? You can bring your donation to our office Monday–Friday, 8 AM–3 PM.

🥫 Would rather give food or supplies? Our greatest needs right now are:
• Gallon- and quart-size storage bags
• Peanut butter
• Plastic shopping bags

Every donation—big, small, monetary, or from your pantry—helps us continue alleviating hunger throughout the Coulee Region. 💚

Thank you for helping us keep the fight going! 🙌⚡
