Freedom is more than a declaration. It is a reality we must continue to build.

On this day in 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, bringing word of freedom to enslaved people more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Juneteenth commemorates that long-awaited moment and invites us to reflect on the ongoing pursuit of freedom and equality.

Today, we honor the resilience, strength, and courage of those who fought for freedom, and recognize those who continue to fight for a more just and equitable future.

As we celebrate Juneteenth, may we reflect, learn, and renew our commitment to create a world where every person is free to live, grow, and thrive.

6 million. That is how many people are expected to attend the 2026 World Cup matches. It is also how many people traffickers have trapped in s*xual exploitation today.

If you can imagine stadiums around the world filled to the brim with fans celebrating a sport, you can start to imagine the scope of the problem of trafficking. While you cheer on your team, consider finding a way to root for justice: join with Atlas Free as we make a difference in millions of lives worthy of freedom and dignity.

A 21-year-old Washington man has been accused of recruiting young women into po*******hy and maintaining control over them. A mansion in Bellevue, Washington and four other properties in the area were used to force women to produce increasingly explicit content for the platform OnlyFans, and pressured to take drugs to stay active. The women were exploited and physically abused, including threatened with guns.

The house also hosted large parties promoted on social media and charged a ticket price for entry. Some events exceed 300 people, including many minors. Police received more than 100 emergency response calls related to these including reports of assaults, DUI offenses, weapons, reckless driving, and minors possessing alcohol.

During the raid, the police seized more than 300 cell phones, 50 laptops, financial documents, cashier’s checks, two luxury cars, and explicit materials. Nikita Tyukalo has pleaded “not guilty” to four counts of human trafficking, one count of money laundering, and one count of leading organized crime. Tyukalo is currently being held on a $5 million bail.

Celebrating not one but two Atlas Free films in the Cannes Indie Short Films this week!

‘The Knight”, a half-animated story, follows a brave knight facing a dark and deceitful dragon as metaphor for the real courage of survivors of human trafficking.

“Coming Home” follows a teenage girl in a village in Thailand who accepts a job offer from her uncle in hopes of a better life, only to be trafficked.

Both films are semi-finalists in the festival and can be viewed by those attending the festival online this week. Visit cannesonline.ottchannel.com

Critical evidence in trafficking cases can be hidden on electronic devices. Finding it can make or break an investigation. A cutting-edge Electronic Detection K9 is now helping law enforcement uncover those devices across 14 counties in Pennsylvania, where no other ED K9 operates, so investigators can locate evidence and move cases forward faster.

The men who buy s*x are being exposed as drivers of exploitation.

Over the past year, this report from an Atlas Free Network Member has been used by lawmakers and advocates in briefings and hearings to address demand as a driver of exploitation, advancing evidence-based strategies that hold buyers accountable while reinforcing survivor-centered prevention efforts.

In Greece, Anita*, is a single mother of four and a survivor of trafficking. A year ago, her future felt uncertain. Today, it looks like hope.

Just months earlier, she began vocational training with an Atlas Free Network Member, determined to build a different future for her family. By the end of the program, she gained new skills and received a job offer.

But progress didn’t stop there. With support from the Network Member, Anita moved into a safe apartment of her own, and her children were enrolled in school. Each step restored a sense of normalcy that once felt out of reach.

The difference between where Anita started and where she stands today is clear. Her life is no longer defined by uncertainty, but by progress, dignity, and the ability to provide for her family.

This Mother’s Day, we are proud of the mothers like Anita who are creating new futures for themselves and their children. This kind of freedom will impact generations. Happy Mother’s Day from the Atlas Free team.

Donate today at atlasfree.org, and create pathways out of exploitation and into hopeful futures for women like Anita around the world.

*Name changed to protect the identity of the survivor.

Calling prostitution “the world’s oldest profession” makes exploitation sound inevitable. Calling it a profession gives it legitimacy and treats a system of harm as a fact of life. It’s actually the world’s oldest oppression. Learn more, subscribe at atlasfree.org/newsletter
