Saanvi* was just 10 years old growing up in India when s*x traffickers forced her into exploitation. After being abandoned by her parents, she was left with people who were not her family, and instead of protecting her, they took her to a red-light area. There, she was forced into exploitation and endured six long years of abuse, including beatings severe enough to damage her retina.

At 16, a police raid finally brought her rescue, and she came under the care of an Atlas Free partner. For the first time, she learned to read and write. She received surgery for her damaged eye and slowly began to see again. The partner empowered her with employment as an office housekeeper, giving her dignity, purpose, and a place to belong.

Last spring, Saanvi got married, surrounded by the found family who walked alongside her in her healing. Today, she has a loving husband, a warm community, and a future she once could not have imagined.

On this International Day of the Girl, we celebrate the boldness, resilience, and futures of girls around the world. The U.S. Department of State just released the 2026 Trafficking in Persons Report today. This report is released every year and evaluates government efforts to combat human trafficking and provides recommendations for action. For more than two decades, the TIP Report has raised awareness, held governments accountable, and promoted international collaboration in combating this crime.

Here are a few takeaways from the report:

🔹 156,912 victims identified worldwide, a record and up 54% from last year’s report
🔹 24,254 prosecutions, also a record and up 54%
🔹 Global convictions fell 5% to 7,576, and labor trafficking convictions dipped to 1,391

But set against the 27.6 million people the International Labour Organization estimates are in trafficking, that means less than 1% of victims have been identified.

Breaking News: California just banned child marriage.

Starting January 1, 2027, no one under 18 can marry in California. Until now, a child could marry with a parent’s consent and a judge’s approval, with no minimum age and no legal way out. There was also no mechanism for people under 18 to get divorced and many girls say they were trapped in abusive and predatory relationships.

“I was just going from one prison to another,” said Brittany Bee, who was married at 17. “Kids, they can’t consent.”

This win belongs to the survivors who spent years fighting for it. But the fight isn’t over. Child marriage is still legal in 32 U.S. states.

Every child deserves the freedom to choose their own path.

This past weekend, 10 men hiked 30 miles in the Appalachian Mountains and raised $30,000 to fight human trafficking. Every mile and every push is a bold declaration of what’s possible when a group decides to show up and stand up for freedom.

And they’re not alone. From the West Coast to the East Coast, Atlas Free’s fundraising community has been busy this year with 7 Freedom Hikes, 5 mountain climbs, 4 Freedom Dinners, a first-of-its-kind surfing fundraiser, and so much more. Together, 222 fundraisers have raised over $550,000 so far this year.

With three months left in 2026, there’s still time to turn what you already love into a way to fight trafficking. Come with us to the DaVinci Intl Film Festival in LA, where Atlas Free’s short film, Firebird, was officially selected last weekend. Seeing Dolma’s powerful story on the big screen was a special moment and helped continue shining a light on the issue of human trafficking. Every festival, screening, and person who sees Firebird helps to raise awareness and move this mission forward.

Another film festival for Firebird in the books. 🎥 This weekend, Atlas Free’s film, Firebird, was screened at its second film festival: DaVinci International Film Festival at The Grove in Los Angeles. Our team had the honor of joining a panel alongside fellow leaders and advocates working to fight human trafficking.

At the heart of the film is Dolma. Human traffickers exploited her innocence as a young girl, and trafficked her from her home in Nepal to India. She escaped, found her way to freedom, and today she walks alongside other girls on that same journey.

That’s why this screening matters. Every person who sees Firebird walks away knowing that human trafficking isn’t a distant issue, and that they have a part to play in ending it.

One hundred years ago, world leaders took the first international legal step against slavery with the 1926 Slavery Convention. It was incomplete and full of compromises, but it was a beginning. A century later, 27.6 million people* are still exploited in forced labor and s*x trafficking, often hidden inside the supply chains behind everyday products.
