Look who is coming to the Northwest Math Conference! It's the current President of NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics), Dr. Latrenda Knighten. Dr. Knighten will be joining us as one of our amazing featured speakers for the Northwest Math Conference in Portland, Oregon, October 9-10, 2026. She comes to us from Louisiana where she is retired from working as a Mathematics Curriculum Supervisor. She has also been a classroom teacher, an elementary science specialist, an elementary mathematics coach, a district instructional coach, and has worked as Mathematics Curriculum Supervisor in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Gifted Education: Pedagogy of Growth and Challenge
Gifted Education varies widely across school districts in the United States and continues to face persistent critiques related to elitism, segregation, and inequitable access for students from historically underrepresented backgrounds. Drawing on her experience directing public school, early learning, and early college programs for advanced learners, she will offer perspectives on both the promises and challenges of gifted education. She will also highlight the Robinson Center for Young Scholars and share practical strategies for how parents can support their children’s development from preschool through college.
