People are fleeing war-torn Ukraine every day. It is a common belief that as soon as someone crosses the border into a western country, they are safe. However, the journey is just starting and it is not easy: most refugees have never been abroad and don’t speak foreign languages. Project Peppa’s goal is to help refugees from Ukraine get to their final destination, one family at a tim
e. Our volunteers work around the clock in the Bucharest airport in Romania that sees a constant flow of refugees from neighboring Ukraine. We have also helped refugees at the train station and at land border crossings. Our team of volunteers at Bucharest’s Otopeni airport has provided logistic support, helped Ukrainians resolve issues with airlines, provided safety checks and made sure that the families were able to fly out from Romania to their country of resettlement. In addition, we bought plane/train/bus tickets, paid baggage fees, arranged and paid for accommodations, taxi, covid tests and many other expenses the refugees cannot afford. We strongly believe in making a difference one family at a time.
