More than half of American adults got their first regular work experience in the restaurant and foodservice industry.

That means employers across nearly every field hire people whose earliest lessons in teamwork, communication, time management, customer service and problem-solving began inside a restaurant.

For some, that first restaurant job becomes a lifelong hospitality career. For others, it becomes the foundation they carry into education, healthcare, business, technology and countless other industries.

Restaurants do more than create first jobs. They help prepare America’s workforce for what comes next.

Did your working life begin in a restaurant? Tell us your first position and where those skills have taken you.

What an incredible day at Hospitality Day at the K! ⚾🎉

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for an afternoon of networking, great food, refreshing drinks, and Kansas City Royals baseball. Seeing our hospitality community come together to celebrate one another is what this event is all about, and we couldn't have asked for a better day.

One of the day's biggest highlights was seeing our Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association President, Michael McVey, represent our industry by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch and having the opportunity to meet Royals All-Star Salvador Perez. It was a proud moment for our association and a memory we'll cherish for years to come.

A special thank you to our partners at the Hotel & Lodging Association of Greater Kansas City for helping make this event possible, and to our Presenting Sponsor, Performance Foodservice, whose continued support helped bring Hospitality Day at the K to life.

We also want to extend our sincere appreciation to the many vendors, suppliers, and industry partners who generously donated food, beverages, products, giveaways, and other items to help make our tailgate such a success. Your generosity and commitment to supporting Kansas City's hospitality community did not go unnoticed, and we are incredibly grateful for your partnership.

From all of us at the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association, thank you for making Hospitality Day at the K another unforgettable success. We can't wait to see you at our next event!

School is almost back in session, and opportunity is ready to take attendance 🎒🍽️

Throughout August, the Missouri Restaurant Association is paying attention to the students, educators, employers, mentors, and industry partners helping Missourians build their futures through hospitality.

Through ProStart classrooms and scholarships, professional certifications, workforce training, and first jobs that grow into lasting careers, Missouri’s restaurant industry creates more than memorable eats. Our industry creates opportunities to learn, lead, and succeed.

Follow along as we share the people, programs, and pathways moving Missouri hospitality forward.

❤️ Dine local. Give local. Make a difference.

Throughout the month of August, you can help support the incredible work of Children's Mercy simply by dining at one of our participating Meals That Heal restaurants and businesses.

When you visit one of the locations below, you'll have the opportunity to make an impact in one of two ways: round up your purchase to the nearest dollar or order a designated Meals That Heal menu item, with a portion of the sale donated to the Children's Mercy Family of Community Connection Centers. Every dollar raised helps provide vital pediatric care, family support services, and community resources for children and families across our region.

A heartfelt thank you to each of our participating restaurants for joining us in this mission. Your generosity demonstrates that the hospitality industry is about so much more than serving great food, it's about serving our communities.

📍 Check out the participating locations below, stop in this month, and help make a difference for local children and families.

A great meal can do more than bring people together; it can help strengthen the community we call home.

The Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association and Visit KC recently presented $125,134 to reStart, Inc., representing charitable proceeds from Kansas City Restaurant Week.

This contribution was made possible by the participating restaurants that opened their doors, the diners who filled their tables, and the partners who continue to make Kansas City Restaurant Week one of our region’s most meaningful annual traditions.

Thank you to everyone who dined out, showed up, and helped turn Restaurant Week reservations into real community impact. And thank you to reStart for the important work you do for individuals and families across Kansas City.

Now that is a check worth picking up ❤️

We knew the FIFA World Cup would bring big moments to Kansas City. We didn’t know one of them would become a ProStart success story ⚽️

Just as Kansas City is coming down from the excitement of the FIFA World Cup, Chef Jenn Turner, ProStart educator for the Independence School District, took an extraordinary opportunity to bring six ProStart students and alums together: two alumni, one recent graduate, one returning senior, and two incoming students.

For three days, they worked alongside the Colombia team chef, assisting with kitchen preparation, making team meals, and serving players face-to-face at a live-action omelet station.

Think about that 🤔 students at every stage of the ProStart journey, from just entering the program to already building careers beyond it, came together to help feed an international team in Kansas City.

Talk about career-connected learning! It is access, mentorship, teamwork, and real-world experience, all unfolding right here in Missouri during one of the biggest moments in global sports.

Chef Turner provided an open kitchen door most students could only dream of walking through. And her ProStart students showed that they were ready ✨

What an incredible 10 days it has been. 💚

As we wrap up the inaugural Springfield Restaurant Week, we want to extend our sincere thanks to every restaurant, diner, sponsor, volunteer, media partner, influencer, and community member who made this first year such a success.

From sharing unforgettable meals to supporting two incredible causes, your participation helped showcase the very best of Springfield's hospitality community. This event would not have been possible without the passion and commitment of our local restaurants and everyone who chose to dine out and support them.

Thank you for helping us make history during Springfield Restaurant Week's inaugural year. We can't wait to build on this momentum and make 2027 even bigger.

See you next year, Springfield! 🍽️💚

Running a restaurant is hard 😫 It's more than serving great food and creating memorable experiences.

Restaurant owners navigate food safety requirements, labor laws, licensing, compliance standards, and countless other responsibilities that help keep their businesses running and their guests safe.

It's one of the reasons advocacy matters so much to us.

The Missouri Restaurant Association works to ensure restaurant operators have a voice in conversations that impact their businesses, employees, and communities.

When policies work for restaurants, restaurants can focus on what they do best: serving guests, creating jobs, and strengthening the communities they call home.
