Five years old. More therapy recommended. More therapy needed. One future full of possibility.

Xander lives with autism and a phonological disorder, and receives speech and occupational therapy to strengthen communication, fine motor skills, sensory processing, and self-regulation.

His care team recommended a higher frequency of therapy to support his development—but like many families, Xander's family discovered that having insurance doesn't always mean having access. Their plan covers only a limited number of therapy visits each year, leaving a gap between what was recommended and what was covered.

That's where First Hand stepped in.

Through donors like you, Xander can receive additional speech and occupational therapy sessions, helping him continue building skills, confidence, and independence during this important stage of development.

This is what First Hand exists to do: remove barriers to care and help children access the services they need to thrive.

Together, we raised more than $365,000 to help children access medical care they otherwise may not receive.

The event may be over, but the impact is just beginning.

Every dollar raised will help remove financial barriers for families facing some of their most difficult moments.

Some programs are simply too important to lose.

18,000 local elementary students rely on these free health screenings each year — screenings that catch vision issues, hearing loss, scoliosis, heart concerns, dental needs, and more before they become bigger barriers to learning and life.

When this program was unexpectedly at risk, we knew one thing immediately: the work had to continue.

First Hand Foundation is proud to step forward and ensure these screenings continue for children across the KC metro during the 2026–2027 school year. Because every child deserves access to care, no matter their circumstances.

Three years old. Three weeks of intensive therapy. One future full of possibility.

Eleanor lives with spastic cerebral palsy, which impacts her strength, balance, and overall mobility. Every day, she works hard in therapy to build the skills needed for greater independence and movement.

Her family has insurance, but the intensive therapy program recommended by Eleanor’s care team still wasn’t covered — leaving a major gap between what was medically necessary and what was financially possible.

That’s where First Hand stepped in. Through donors like you, Eleanor can now attend a three-week intensive therapy program focused on strengthening mobility, improving balance, and helping her continue reaching meaningful milestones.

This is what First Hand exists to do: remove barriers to care and create pathways to health, joy, and possibility for children who need it most.
