Meet Whitney Kerr, the Kansas City painter and River Market resident behind the new “Welcome to the River Market” mural at 3rd & Walnut. 🎨 Whitney has been painting for more than 15 years, working across signs, murals, and fine art. When he first saw the wall being cleaned up, he immediately thought it would be the perfect place for a mural. A few months later, that moment turned into a new piece of public art for the neighborhood.
“It feels really cool being chosen to do the project because I do live here,” Whitney shared. “A lot of times, local art or public art will be installed by people who don’t live in the neighborhood.”
This project was made possible through a Keep America Beautiful Grant and Neighborhoods Rising Fund offered through Bridging the Gap, Kansas City’s local environmental nonprofit working to connect environment, economy, and community.
