We are looking forward to our travel meeting tomorrow at 10 AM at Grace UMC. This is a fantastic opportunity for those interested in traveling with Shepherd’s Center to share their ideas and input. We will focus on day trips within 90 minutes of Topeka, but we also welcome suggestions for longer excursions. Your contributions are vital for planning enriching experiences that cater to our community's interests. Let’s collaborate to create unforgettable adventures together!

The Shepherd's Center of Richmond, VA

Since January 2010, Hal Costley has done nearly every job there is at The Shepherd's Center of Richmond. He led the Board for three years, stepped in as Interim President during a period of unexpected transition, chaired the Finance Committee, taught at Open University, and helped launch an entirely new program location in 2024.

If Hal is asked for help, he rarely says no — and that steady "yes" has shaped the direction of an entire organization.

Aging Forward Central Texas

From the U.S. Marine Corps to IT consulting to teaching English in China — Allan Schneider's path has taken him around the world. Today, it centers on Central Texas.

Allan sits on Aging Forward Central Texas's Community Advisory Council, volunteers monthly with a food insecurity program, and built the organization's Tech Tutors Program from the ground up — helping older adults grow confident with smartphones, laptops, and tablets, one patient session at a time.

His "neighbors helping neighbors" philosophy has taken him to Guatemala and Kazakhstan — and it shows up every month in San Marcos.

Aging Forward Durham, NC

Every organization starts with someone who refuses to look away from a need. For Aging Forward Durham, that someone is Henry Broadway.

In 2023, Henry noticed older adults in North Durham struggling to get to medical appointments. He turned a Nextdoor post into a community movement — and by April 2025, Aging Forward Durham had officially launched. A month later, volunteers were already on the road.

Henry now serves as an honorary board member and Founder, after arthritis pain limited his day-to-day role. It's taken six people to carry forward the vision he built almost single-handedly.
