What a month it's been at the House! Here's a look back:

🔴 We kicked off the month with our favorite day of the year, Red Thursday! It's always so special to watch Kansas City come out and show up for our families.

☕ We ran into some friends while grabbing coffee. We love connecting over RMHKC out in the world beyond the House!

🎂 We celebrated sweet Teddy's 4th birthday! 🐾

🐶 Speaking of pups, we had some very special visitors: a litter of puppies from one of our visiting therapy dog trainers, including Teddy's in-training future colleagues. So. Many. Snuggles.

💛 The Huffman family visited with Brexley, a little fighter who had three open heart surgeries at birth. They brought a big donation of Pop Tabs collected by their community. Thank you, Brexley and family, for thinking of the House!

🎥 It was also a month of visitors, with two major shoot days. GMA came to help tell the story of our beloved tradition with the Chiefs, Red Friday. Then Global stopped by to interview a special family and one of our beloved volunteers.

Thank you to everyone who makes the House feel like home for the families who stay with us. ❤️

Meet the Avila Hernandez family. 💛

Helen is 4. Her brother David is 10. In 2023, their family moved from Cuba to Nixa, Missouri, drawn by good schools and a welcoming community. They never imagined that a few years later, they'd be traveling to Kansas City for Helen's medical care.

It started when Helen began having trouble walking. A CT scan in Springfield revealed a large tumor in her brain, and the family was told they'd need to travel for surgery. Surgeons were able to remove the entire tumor, but then came proton radiation, a specialized treatment only available in Kansas City.

That meant 48 nights at the Wylie House.

But the Hernandez family says they found so much more than a place to stay. From day one, they were struck by the warmth of our House. The welcoming spaces, the kindness, something new for Helen and David to discover every day. Their favorite memory? Watching Helen come back from treatment excited to play, never once asking to go home.

For 48 nights, Ronald McDonald House KC became a place where Helen could simply be a 4-year-old surrounded by kindness, comfort, and a little bit of joy, even in the hardest chapter of her family's life. 💛

As we recognize this September, we're thinking of the NICU families supported by Ronald McDonald House programs around the world ❤️

Families like baby Grayson's.

Grayson was born early at 33 weeks and needed immediate surgery and specialized care. For nearly a month while Grayson was in the NICU, his parents, Paige and Jordan, stayed just steps away at Ronald McDonald House Louisville

"Being at Ronald McDonald House allowed us to be with Grayson in the NICU as much as possible," Paige says. "It was the biggest blessing to us on our journey."

It’s this very good boy’s birthday today!

Join us in celebrating Teddy, our now four year old cuddle companion. Ted-Ted, Teddybear, Tedward, Ted-a-licious, Teddy Graham loves a snack and loafing around the halls of Longfellow. Give this guy an extra scratch next time you see him.
Happiest Birthday Teddy!

Rain or shine — literally — our Red Thursday volunteers showed up.

From every corner of Kansas City, hundreds of you stood outside through pouring rain, flag in hand, smile even bigger, selling Red Thursday flags to help keep our doors open, supporting families with sick kids.

You didn't let the weather stop you. That says everything about this community.
To every single volunteer pictured here (and the many more we didn’t see), thank you. Because of you, families staying at Ronald McDonald House KC have a bed, a warm meal, and each other close by during the hardest days of their lives.

We appreciate you. 🧡

“The facility allowed us to stay focused on our son’s needs while still giving him the chance to enjoy being a child.” - The McHugh Vasquez Family

Jeremy, Jessica, and their three children stayed at Ronald McDonald House Atlanta for over 60 nights while their son participated in a feeding therapy program nearby.

When families can stay close, they can focus on what matters most: caring for and supporting one another throughout their child’s medical journey.

When you're navigating your child's medical journey, everyday activities like getting a haircut can fall to the bottom of the priority list.

At Ronald McDonald House Tampa Bay, Inc., Olivia and her team helped families get back-to-school ready with fresh haircuts. We're grateful to community members like Olivia who give back in meaningful ways, helping families feel supported and experience moments of normalcy during challenging times.

🏈A little bit of normal, in the middle of the hardest season.

The Foleys traveled from New Mexico to Kansas City to adopt their son, currently receiving care in the NICU at Children's Mercy. What was supposed to be a hopeful arrival turned into two weeks of fear, learning, and a brain surgery none of them saw coming.

In the middle of all of it, a Chiefs preseason ticket, gifted through Ronald McDonald House Kansas City, gave a dad the chance to take his oldest daughter to a game. A few hours of joy. A little bit of distraction. And, as he told us, a chance to celebrate the city his son will always call home.

"Going to see the Chiefs was celebrating a little bit of who he is."

This is what your generosity makes possible - not just a roof over a family's head, but small moments of normal life in the middle of the hardest days.

Thank you to our donors for making this possible for families like The Foleys. ♥️

Whew! Kansas City, you humbled us again this year. Even through a downpour you showed up with a big smile.

Every flag purchased is helping raise money for sick and injured children fighting for their lives in the hospital right now. Kids who should be worrying about homework and soccer practice instead of chemo schedules and hospital rooms. Families who are scared, exhausted, and holding on to hope one day at a time.

Thanks to McDonalds and YOU, we get to help carry some of that weight. We get to keep our doors open so no family has to face a child's illness alone or far from home.

So from all of us at Ronald McDonald House Kansas City, THANK YOU. Truly. This city never stops showing up for the families and we are so grateful to call KC home. Red Thursday may be over, but the impact is just getting started. 💙🏈

Once a Ronald McDonald House Family, always a Ronald McDonald House Family. ❤️

While Harlow and Hadley were in the NICU, the Rardon family found comfort and support at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mid-Missouri. Now, the twins have made it a tradition to give back by volunteering at the House each year, even spending part of their birthday this year packing lunches and preparing a meal for families staying at the House.

Thank you, Harlow and Hadley!

Summer days call for a sweet treat! 🍦

When a child is receiving medical care, moments like sharing an ice cream, enjoying a summer activity, or simply spending time together can mean so much.

At Ronald McDonald House, families can hold onto these moments, all while staying close to the care their child needs.

“It is not just the House that provided us with a sense of home – it was the people,” says Shawna.

When the Roy family’s daughter, Carly, was in the NICU, her family stayed at Ronald McDonald House South Central Ontario, surrounded by a community of support while their daughter was receiving medical treatment.

For families like the Roys, Ronald McDonald House becomes more than a place to stay. It's a place of comfort and connection and a reminder that they’re not alone.
