Children International

Children International Starting from childhood, we empower youth to forge a path out of poverty and into economic independence. So why is what Children International does important?
(1446)

Let’s explain. Poverty is one of the most complex social issues of our time. Beyond a lack of opportunity and access to financial resources, poverty includes things like malnutrition, poor hygiene, deplorable living conditions, domestic gang violence, and early exposure to drugs – impacting every aspect of life from childhood through adulthood. About half of those living in poverty are children, a

nd we believe ending poverty starts with them. Without help, children in poverty become adults in poverty. Their future children are born into poverty, and the cycle continues. Together, we can put an end to generational poverty with a long-term, customized program that helps children get the education, life skills and confidence to change their lives – and the lives of future generations too. Our unique, global approach focuses on four key areas: Health, Education, Empowerment and Employment. These nurturing benefits and support tell children they matter in a world that often tells them otherwise. And when they graduate from sponsorship, they have transformed into empowered, encouraged and confident youth who will pay it forward, bringing hope and opportunity to others in their families, their lives, their communities and the world. Around the world, we are helping children and youth build stronger futures and create lasting change in their communities.

Today we’re highlighting our agency in the Dominican Republic, which has served more than 110,000 children and youth since 1979, and has pioneered some of our most transformative programs.

We’re grateful for the people and work behind that impact.

Shampoo. Toothpaste. Soap. These are things many of us reach for every day without a second thought. But after a disaster, essentials can become difficult to access.

We partnered with Heart to Heart International to ensure thousands of families in the Philippines received hygiene kits to help them stay clean and healthy after Typhoon Tino. This is a reminder that they're not facing recovery alone.

On , we’re celebrating our young innovators – like Brandon in Ecuador. Thanks to his determination and support from our Into Employment program, he opened Yammi Dog Ecuador a pet‑snack brand. It now has more than 70 points of sale across 15 cities. See his incredible story at children.org/AnnualReport-IE.

Our Into Employment program is helping youth build the skills they need to land their first jobs, thanks to leaders like María Guadalupe Mejía. She leads our program in Honduras, and has spent 14 years making it her life’s work. See how her team is changing how employers view potential – and opening doors for the next generation. https://ow.ly/WpLQ50ZATO2

You can’t support a community without being part of it.

Our teams spend time in neighborhoods - talking with families, listening to what they have to say and learning more about what they need. These visits help us stay connected to the people and communities we serve and make our work more meaningful.

We’ve been showing up for 90 years, and we’re not stopping now.

For many families, back to school means new backpacks, new supplies and excitement for the year ahead. But for some children, the path to the classroom comes with challenges many of us never have to consider.

At Children International, we believe every child deserves the chance to learn, grow and build a brighter future. Through educational support and resources that develop confidence and skills, we help children overcome barriers and reach their goals.

You can help create more opportunities for children to learn and thrive. Visit children.org to learn how you can make a difference.

Meet our Youth Spotlight of the Month - Astrid from Honduras.

While participating in Children International's Into Employment program, she's already giving back to mothers in need in her community. And that's just the beginning.

Watch her story to see what's next.

Evarine and Ochumba grew up participating in Children International's program.

Today, they're representing Zambia as professional soccer players with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

Every child deserves the opportunity to discover their talents and pursue their dreams. Help us celebrate Evarine and Ochumba, and all they've accomplished.
