That is the power of growing up in community.

Through our newly evolved program model, Path of Opportunity™️, the children and young people we support are moving forward alongside supportive peers and with the help of trained local leaders.

Our Global Program Lead Nadia Moreno gives us a glimpse of how meaningful this is with her sentiments in this brief portion of our recent podcast chat with her.

Today is International Day of the Girl and we’re celebrating solutions that create lasting opportunity: the skills, confidence and pathways that improve their lives.

At Children International, we’re grateful that our signature workforce development program, Into Employment, is a gamechanger.

Because when girls and young women are given the education and resources they need to thrive, they can build brighter futures on their own terms.

Our program graduate, Rosita, is an inspiring example.

She joined dozens of other young women in Children International’s Into Employment program in Guatemala, where 1 in 5 girls and young women ages 15-24 is neither working nor in school.
Rosita (and our other Into Employment participants) beat those odds by learning to sew and design, and by participating in entrepreneurship courses – gaining lasting skills to earn an income.

When Children International team member Dalia Rivera Pineda asked to buy Rosita’s huipil—a traditional, hand-woven or embroidered blouse worn by Mayan women in Guatemala— Rosita quietly accepted the payment. Then Dalia asked, “Was this your first sale?”

It was.

Dalia assured her it would be the first of many.

The path to a brighter future can begin with something as small as one more block.

In the Chibolya neighborhood in Lusaka, Zambia, the children we support lean on one another, create through play and fill the room with laughter. That’s the goal of our Path of Opportunity™️ program model: Every activity has a purpose, including helping children express their emotions, solve problems, build relationships and grow more confident.
