A sweet surprise awaited us last week! ❤️

As we walked into the office used by our summer intern, Alorra, we found the kindest note she left behind.

For the past 10 weeks, Alorra, a senior in Human Services at Northwest Missouri State University, has been learning firsthand about nonprofit work, case management, and serving families transitioning out of homelessness. We are so grateful for her hard work, compassion, and dedication.

Thank you, Alorra, for the impact you made at River of Refuge. We know you'll do amazing things in your career. Good luck, and please keep in touch! 🎓✨

We may not say it often enough, but we absolutely love our interns! ❤️

Over the past six weeks, we’ve been blessed to have three outstanding young men, all rising high school seniors, with us through the SWEP program at the Center for Developmentally Disabled.

Alongside their coach, they were a tremendous help to the River of Refuge team. They gained hands-on experience learning what it takes to operate a facility our size, while developing valuable workplace skills and a better understanding of the commitment, responsibility, and teamwork that come with having a job.

We are so grateful for their hard work, positive attitudes, and willingness to learn. Thank you for making a difference at River of Refuge, and we wish you all the best in your senior year! 🎉👏

It’s definitely HOT outside! ☀️🥵

Many of us are fortunate to have air conditioning in our homes, vehicles, and workplaces, and for that, I’m incredibly grateful.

With temperatures soaring, it’s important to remember that our animals feel the heat too. Our eleven ROR hens don’t tolerate extreme temperatures very well, so we take extra steps to keep them comfortable. Their water is refreshed at least twice daily, and we provide multiple watering stations throughout their run. Some of the girls cool off by standing in their water bowls, others enjoy a dip in the pool, and a few patiently wait their turn!

As we work to keep our animals cool and hydrated, let’s also remember our neighbors who may not have access to adequate cooling. If you're able, help someone find a safe place to escape the heat.

What an incredible week of celebrations! 🎉

We’ve had two families graduate from our program in the last week, and we couldn’t be prouder of all they’ve accomplished.

Because of the generous donations from so many of you, including furniture, dishes, household items, and more, our families are able to "shop" at ROR at no cost to furnish their new homes as they begin this exciting new chapter.

One of our graduates, a single mom of four, is moving into her own home this Saturday. During her eight months with us, she paid off all of her debt and saved several thousand dollars for her future.

Last weekend, a single dad also graduated from the program. During his four months with us, he regained custody of his son, built savings, and developed valuable life and parenting skills. Since he came to us debt-free, he was able to focus on preparing for long-term success and reunification with his child.

These success stories are possible because of hard work, determination, and the support of our amazing community. Congratulations to both families on this well-deserved achievement! ❤️🏡👏
