NJSS Arrival Reminders

Before you hit the road to Abilene, make sure you're ready for check-in!

✅ Health papers are required
✅ Registration papers (paper copy or digital PDF) are required
✅ Tack arrival begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, no earlier!
✅ No porta-cools or butt fans allowed in the barns
✅ Only steers will be weighed at check-in
✅ Barn stalls have been assigned and information has been sent to state advisors
✅ Non-purchased tie-out spaces are first come, first served
✅ If you have any scratches, please contact the ASA office
✅ The substitution deadline has passed

HEALTH PAPER REMINDER

All cattle attending the National Junior Shorthorn Show are required to have a valid Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (Health Papers) upon arrival.

This requirement applies to ALL exhibitors, including those from Texas.

Please review your health documents before traveling to ensure a smooth check-in process. We appreciate your cooperation in helping maintain the health and safety of all cattle at the event.

While Texas is open, your home state dictates the rules for your return. Regulations are changing daily, so you must check with your State Veterinarian or Department of Agriculture to confirm what is required to bring your cattle back home.

Some states may require a new Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) before reentry. To make this process as smooth as possible:

- On-Site Vet in Abilene: The ASA will have a veterinarian on the fairgrounds ready to perform inspections and issue CVIs for your trip home if your state requires one.
- Preventative Treatment: There are preventative veterinary treatments available that protect animals for 28 days. We recommend consulting your local vet before you leave for Texas if you wish to treat your cattle proactively.

As Benjamin Franklin said, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

Ultimately, the decision to attend the Junior National is an individual choice. We are doing everything in our power alongside TAHC to ensure a safe, smooth, and fun event. We look forward to seeing you all in Abilene!
