The Transition Academy is hosting a series of workshops this summer designed to connect families and students with valuable community resources, education, and support services. These sessions are a great opportunity to learn what services are available and how to access them for your child.

Overview of programs and supports for high school students and adults with disabilities

Learn about eligibility, enrollment steps, and what to expect

Explore services such as therapy, employment support, independent living, and assistive technology

Simmons Bank – Understanding Banking Workshop (July 25, 2026 | 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM)

Learn how to safely use a bank account

Build skills in saving, budgeting, and managing everyday finances

Gain confidence in making informed financial decisions

Additional Information:
Childcare will be provided on-site during the workshops (registration required)

Light refreshments will be served

So proud to celebrate the end of the school year with our Hogan Preparatory Academy students.

As the school year comes to a close, we’re celebrating the growth, confidence, and achievements of all our TTA students. Through career exploration, field trips, workforce development, and hands-on learning, these students have spent the year discovering new possibilities for their futures.

We are so proud of the hard work, courage, and determination they’ve shown throughout the year and we can’t wait to see what comes next. 💙

TTA had the honor of serving as judges at Piper High School's Senior Capstone Presentation Day! 🎓

Watching these students step up, present their work, and field questions from a panel of professionals was truly something special. This is exactly the kind of real-world experience that prepares young people for life after high school. It's the kind of experience we envision for our own youth in the TTA program.

So proud to be part of moments like this. Congratulations to the Piper High School seniors! 💙

At the 2026 KC DiversAbility College and Career Fair, The Transition Academy's reverse career fair put our TTA students in the spotlight.

Students from Hogan Preparatory Academy and Crossroads Charter Schools High School spent months preparing, building resumes, writing cover letters, and practicing interviews. On April 2, they stood by the boards they built themselves and introduced their skills, interests, work experience, and goals to employers.

For many of them, it was the first time they had ever been asked to stand in front of a room and say this is who I am and this is what I can do. This video is their story. 💙 We are so proud of all other them.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! 🍎

This week, our team delivered tokens of appreciation to the amazing teachers we partner with throughout the community. These photos are from our visit to Hogan Preparatory Academy but this week we’re celebrating ALL of the educators who support and encourage our students every day.

We’re grateful for the partnerships, patience, advocacy, and care teachers bring to this work.

This year, Brooke Smith from UMKC's social work program joined us as our intern and she quickly became part of the heart of The Transition Academy team 💙 Today is her last day so we're shouting her praises and making sure she knows how much she was appreciated.

Working closely with students each day, she got to see something special: real growth in confidence. Brooke also shared something we believe deeply: every day looks different, and giving students the space to show up as they are is part of what helps them succeed. Her experience with TTA strengthened her passion for working with individuals with different abilities.

We’re so grateful for everything she brought to our community ✨ Thanks for everything Brooke and good luck as you complete your last year of education!
