Exciting news for The Transition Academy family! 🌟

Our Founder, President & CEO, Kim Riley, has been named to the 2026–2027 Kansas City Tomorrow (KCT) Leadership Class by the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City!

Kim is one of 32 senior leaders from across the Kansas City area selected for this prestigious program. Over the next 10 months, she’ll be connecting and collaborating with civic, business, and community leaders to address vital regional issues like education, workforce access, economic mobility, and equity.

Kim’s passion for creating brighter futures for young adults with special needs and neurodivergence is inspiring to all of us at TTA and now she’ll be sharing that vision and advocacy with other leaders in KC!

The Transition Academy is looking for a Real World Learning Coordinator (In-Person, Kansas City, MO) to help empower high school students with disabilities as they prepare for life after graduation! 🎓💼

In this role, you will:
✨ Teach career readiness lessons directly to students in the classroom.
✨ Coordinate fun, hands-on learning experiences like job tours and internships.
✨ Meet monthly with families to build strong relationships and provide direct support.
✨ Mentor instructors and manage program data to keep our impact growing.

We need your vote! Help Us Bring Inclusive Career-Connected Learning to SXSW EDU 2027! 🗳️✨

We submitted a panel proposal for SXSW EDU and now we need your support.

Students with disabilities are often left out of career-connected learning—not because they lack ambition, but because systems weren't built with them in mind. We submitted our workshop proposal, "Special Ed Students Belong in Career-Connected Learning," to change that narrative.

If selected, our CEO & Founder Kim Riley will guide practitioners through:

1️⃣ Conducting an Inclusive Career Pathway Audit to identify pipeline barriers.
2️⃣ Using hands-on tools to dismantle obstacles in Career & Technical Education (CTE).
3️⃣ Building a 90-day action plan to create real, lasting structural change.

Banking doesn't have to be intimidating and our summer workshop proved it. 💙💰

On Saturday, Kay Watson (a volunteer banking professional) came to TTA and turned a financial literacy lesson into a full-on experience: trivia, bingo, paddle games, and a real-money activity where families practiced splitting a paycheck between savings and bills. Spoiler: the bills won for a lot of people. Yikes!

It was fun, it was real, and it was exactly the kind of practical knowledge our students and families deserve access to.
