Concerned Clergy Coalition of Kansas City has proceeded with instructions for organizing locally along with other community partners a Chartered Bus"The Kansas City Freedom Riders" to DC. This opportunity allows us to make our Voices heard and March in Solidarity! "Defending The Vote'! Join Us as we prepare to travel to Washington, D.C. August 27th @ 12 noon! We Vote! We Ride, We Rise! There are seats available!

In 1963, we marched for jobs and freedom. In 2026, we march for our right to vote, fair wages, and affordable housing and groceries. The job's not done, so the movement continues.

Sunday Church Announcements! Text & Email Blast! What the March on Washington meant!
The March represented a collective demand for justice, equality, freedom, economic opportunity, and full citizenship for Black Americans. Approximately 250,000 people gathered in Washington, D.C., to call attention to racial discrimination and economic inequality.
The event is especially remembered for Martin Luther King Jr. delivering his historic “I Have a Dream” speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
The March called for:
Civil and voting rights for Black Americans
An end to segregation and racial discrimination
Equal access to employment and economic opportunity
Desegregation of public schools
A federal civil rights law
Dignity, justice, and freedom for all Americans
Why it still matters today?
The March on Washington was not simply a march—it was a movement for transformation. It demonstrated what can happen when clergy, labor leaders, students, activists, community organizations, and ordinary citizens come together around a common purpose.
Its message can still be expressed today as:
“We march because freedom must be protected, justice must be pursued, and every generation has a responsibility to carry the work forward.”

For a Kansas City Freedom Riders trip to Washington, D.C., the March on Washington can therefore be presented as a continuation of that legacy—not merely remembering history, but connecting the struggles and victories of the past with the civic responsibilities of today.
