Gabriella is a student volunteer at Helping Hands Wellness Center completing an externship from Ross Medical Education Center . 💙🩺

When asked what her favorite thing is about being at Helping Hands, she said, “I love that the focus here is not on the business, but we actually connect with our patients. Folks should know that here at Helping Hands they truly do abide by their mission statement; they do their best every day to make sure your needs come first as a patient.“

Once Gabriella finishes her externship with us, she is looking forward to diving headfirst into her medical assisting career and really planting her feet in the community. We know wherever she lands will be lucky to have her on their staff!

🩷👣🩵 October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

In the United States, 1 in 4 pregnancies will end in miscarriage and 1 in 175 end in stillbirth. In Kalamazoo, we have the lowest overall infant mortality rate in the state (4.5 deaths/1,000 births vs 6.3 in the state of Michigan overall). However, huge racial disparities still exist. Black women are still 2x more likely to experience a stillbirth.

If you have experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss and are in need of emotional support, Helping Hands Wellness Center provides no cost mental health support to qualified clients.

Write down your symptoms that are concerning you. Keep track of any changes you’re noticing, and bring your notes with you to your appointment. Trends in your diet, mood, sleep, and energy levels can sometimes be clues to finding ways of improving your well-being.

Helping Hands Wellness Center is located just south of the transit station on North Rose Street. You’ll see our front entrance right across from the Hilton Garden Inn.

Walk in or make an appointment on our website or by phone 269-303-6211 to see one of our providers Monday, Wednesday, or Friday between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM. (We are closed briefly each day from 1:00PM - 2:00 PM for lunch.)

That’s why we provide free case management services. Our social workers are able to connect our clients with the resources they need to get the support they deserve even after they walk out our doors.
