The Breakdown: Community Cats, TNVR, Ear Tipping, and Colony Management 🐾
What is a Community Cat?
Unowned outdoor cats living in neighborhood groups called colonies. Most are lost or abandoned pets, while some are wild born and not socialized or adoptable.
What is TNVR?
TNVR stands for Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return. The goal of TNVR is to humanely reduce free-roaming cat populations through sterilization and to stop the spread of disease through vaccination.
The Ear Tip
Done safely under anesthesia, a tipped ear is the universal sign that a cat is already sterilized and vaccinated.
-Left ear tip = Boy
-Right ear tip = Girl (because girls are always right! 😉)
Colony Management
Cats that have been trapped, sterilized, and ear-tipped are returned to their original location (colony) and are managed by caregivers. These caring volunteers monitor colony health at a glance, quickly spotting any newcomers to trap them for TNVR.
