This week, the Phoenix Club welcomed Taylor Nicholas, Executive Director of Great City Mississippi Foundation, for a luncheon presentation on the Pearl River Revitalization project. A Jackson native and former federal policy professional with experience spanning the U.S. Trade Representative, Senate, and House, Taylor returned home to lead the effort to reconnect Jackson to its waterfront through public engagement, planning, and community advocacy.

Last week, we closed the books on the 2025–2026 fiscal year, and what a year it was. 🔥

$66,000 raised for the Boys & Girls Club of Central MS, Charlie Kihm named Phoenician of the Year, Scott Powerline & Utility Equipment recognized as Sponsor of the Year, and the gavel passed to incoming President Coleman Frye and the new TPCOJ Board for 2026–2027.

This week our members heard from Liz Brister of Downtown Jackson Partners at our monthly luncheon. Liz serves as Head of Staff and works alongside the Board of Directors, leading the organization to facilitate development and manage and market business opportunities, cultural activities, and amenities within the Business Improvement District of Jackson, Mississippi.

We enjoyed learning more about the ongoing efforts to strengthen and promote downtown Jackson, and the vision for continued growth and vibrancy in our capital city. Thank you, Liz, for joining us and sharing your insight!

In what has become one of the most anticipated parties in Jackson, The Phoenix Club of Jackson will once again blend Kentucky Derby tradition with a Cinco-inspired celebration like no one else.

Seersucker & Sombreros 2026 benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi will take place on Saturday, May 2nd at The Cedars from 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

This all-inclusive afternoon will feature live music, a live Kentucky Derby screening, a robust silent auction and raffle, and complimentary food and beverages from some of Jackson’s finest. Paired with our traditional specialty cocktail bar serving Mint Juleps and Margaritas.

Early Bird Tickets are $30 through April 1. Tickets purchased after April 1 and at the door will be $50.

Come early for the races, stay late for the fiesta, and help support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi.

This week our members enjoyed hearing from John Morgan Hughes. John Morgan is a founding partner of Ten One Strategies, a Jackson-based lobbying and consulting firm that advises organizations across Mississippi on public policy, strategic planning, and government relations.

In addition to his civilian career, John Morgan serves as a Major in the Mississippi Air National Guard, where he currently holds the position of Director of Strategy and Plans. In this role, he supports senior leadership in long-range planning, organizational strategy, and mission alignment.

He also serves on the board of directors for local non-profit organizations and the Central MS Planning and Development District.
