❤️‍🩹 THE WILDFIRE DOGS WE INTRODUCED YOU TO THIS WEEK CAME WITH A COST.

ONE FOLLOWER. ONE DOLLAR. THAT'S THE ASK.

Yes, we know times are hard. That's why the ask is so small.

This week you met Peter. Kev. West. India. Ember. Spark. Ash. Cinder.

Emergency surgery. A bullet in a shoulder. A pregnant mama. Four puppies needing everything.

We said yes.

And those yeses drained our bank account.

We've used personal credit cards to keep those promises. We're not asking you to pay us back. We're asking for enough light ahead that money isn't the reason we have to say no to the next dog.

We are 100% volunteer, registered 501c3 non-profit, no tax dollars to support us like municipal shelters.

Will every follower send $1? Not even close.

Heck, we'll be thrilled if half of you do. ❤️

But maybe you can do more:

🐾 $38 — vaccine
🐾 $59 — bag of food
🐾 $100 — ONE X-ray (most need 2–6)
🐾 $295 — senior blood panel
🐾 $450 — spay/neuter

And if you've adopted from us?

Look beside you.

That sidekick on your couch. Riding shotgun. Sleeping upside down in your bed like they pay the mortgage.

Before they were yours, they were ours.

Someone you've never met donated to help us care for them until they got to you.

Maybe today, you do that for the next one.

Over 1,000 dogs have heard us say:

Absolutely. We'll be there. ❤️

Ready to send your dollar? ❤️‍🩹

❤️ SHE MADE IT OUT. AND SO WILL THEY.

Remember that little snaggle-toothed mama found acres from the nearest main road, deep in the hop orchards with her horribly injured puppy?

Meet India.

She's thought to be only about 1½ years old—a darling little Brussels Griffon mix, probably with some Chihuahua thrown in.

And she is SO special.

Calm. Gentle. Completely loving. The kind of little dog who seems to melt into the people caring for her.

And that ridiculously cute snaggle tooth? Enormous brown eyes? We're obsessed. ❤️

But India brought something else with her from those hop fields.

She's pregnant. Very pregnant.

Our veterinarian believes India is carrying four or five puppies, likely arriving within the next couple of weeks.

We can't know what India's life looked like before agricultural workers found her and West out there.

But we know what happens next.

Her babies won't be born in a hop field.

They won't grow up loose beside a road.

Their mama won't raise them from the end of a chain.

They'll be born somewhere warm and safe, with a full belly, veterinary care and people watching over them from their very first breath.

And when the time comes, we'll find each one a family of their own.

That's what rescue changes.

We can't change everything for every dog in the Yakima Valley.

But for Peter. West. Kev. Ember. Spark. Ash. Cinder. India—and the little lives she's carrying—we can change everything.

And sometimes, that's where you start. ❤️

🔥 EMBER. SPARK. ASH. CINDER.

Four darling little girls growing up loose on a property near White Swan on the Yakama Reservation.

Their mama lives tied to a chain.

Her puppies are free to wander—and lately, that wandering has taken them out onto the road.

One of their siblings, adopted by a neighbor, has already been injured.

Mama can't protect her babies from the end of a chain. But we can. ❤️

Before the fires, there weren't enough homes for puppies like these. Now families throughout White Swan have lost homes, property and stability.

There certainly aren't more adopters waiting.

Meanwhile, dogs continue to have puppies. Intact dogs roam. Litters are born. Looking at these four sisters, there may even have been more than one dad.

Tomorrow, Ember, Spark, Ash and Cinder will make the trip to us along with Kev.

Four little Lab-mix girls who will no longer have to wander onto a road.

They'll receive veterinary care, age-appropriate vaccines and everything they need to get ready for families of their own.

Peter. West and India. Kev. And now these four little girls.

These aren't isolated stories.

This is what rescue looks like in White Swan right now.

Their mama couldn't keep them safe from the end of her chain.

So we will. ❤️

🔥BEFORE THE FIRE, LIFE IN WHITE SWAN WAS ALREADY HARD—ESPECIALLY FOR DOGS.

White Swan sits in the heart of the Yakama Reservation, where an estimated 40.7% of residents live below the poverty line.

Resources were already stretched. Homes for dogs were already incredibly difficult to find.

Then the wildfire came.
(The fire photo in this post was taken by our rescue partner near her own home.)

Kev's family lost their home.

We don't know exactly what happened in those chaotic hours. Maybe Kev was turned loose before the fire to fend for himself. Maybe his family couldn't find him when they evacuated.

For whatever reason, this three-year-old, 60-pound yellow Lab mix was found alive after the fire—and limping badly. Then, surrendered to our rescue partner.

Before he was transported to us, we arranged to get him to a veterinarian for X-rays at our expense.

That's when Kev's story took another heartbreaking turn.

There is a bullet lodged in his shoulder, along with multiple fragments.

They've apparently been there for some time. It's likely that all the running Kev had to do during the wildfire aggravated an old injury his body had somehow learned to live with.

So we named him Kev—short for Kevlar. ❤️‍🩹

He's now neutered, vaccinated, treated for pesky parasites, and next Tuesday is his pre-op exam with our veterinary team to create a plan for removing the bullet and fragments.

Whatever he needs, our rescue will cover it.

Kev survived an old gunshot wound. He survived losing his home. He survived the wildfire.

Now he doesn't have to survive on his own.

He's ours. We've got him from here. ❤️

But Kev is only one dog.

Before the fires, there weren't enough homes for the dogs already living around White Swan. After so many families lost homes and stability, there certainly aren't more.

And there are still dogs out there.

Tomorrow, we'll introduce you to four of them.

❤️‍🩹 HOW DID THEY END UP HERE?

Acres away from the nearest main road. Deep in the hop orchards of the Yakima Valley.

A young mama and her horribly injured six-month-old puppy.

We don't know how they got there. We may never know.

Agricultural workers found the little pair and our rescue partner on the Yakama Reservation got them to safety.

And West desperately needed help.

A massive wound extended from his back right shoulder, around his body and toward his left chest. His coat—and even the wound itself—was filled with cheat grass and its painful, sharp awns.

Less than 10 hours after arriving in our care, West was already at our veterinary partner undergoing lifesaving surgery.

Once surgery began, the damage proved even more extensive than it appeared. The incision had to be enlarged so our vet could painstakingly remove debris and damaged tissue, clean everything and quite literally put this little puppy back together.

And he did. ❤️

Because West is so young, we know he'll heal beautifully and eventually may not even be missing fur.

As for their names?

Found in the hop fields, they became India (Pale Ale) and West (Coast Pale Ale). 🍺🌿

And yes, they even share the same darling little underbite.

West is safe. He's healing.

And that adorable snaggle-toothed mama beside him?

India has another surprise for us. Her story is coming. ❤️

❤️ IT'S A BRAND NEW DAY FOR PETER PARKER

Why Peter Parker? Because he's the ordinary guy life keeps knocking down—and somehow, he keeps getting back up.

Our Peter knows something about that.

Peter was known to our rescue partner on the Yakama Reservation when he still had a home. They helped get him neutered through a voucher clinic in spring 2025.

Earlier this year, his owner died of an overdose and Peter was suddenly on his own.

Before the White Swan fires, our partner found him alongside a road with abrasions and a severe head injury, possibly from being hit by a car. They fed him and planned to return for him.

Then the fires came.

When they found Peter again afterward, he had survived that too. We were asked if we could make room.

Absolutely. ❤️

Today his wound is completely healed. The indentation in his skull and scarred skin are permanent, but don't bother him. They're simply part of that handsome face—with its adorable expressions and gorgeous leopard markings.

At 52 pounds, Peter may also be the most docile Catahoula mix we've ever met. He's gentle, calm, great with dogs, fine with cats and an absolute love bug with his people.

And then we gave him a toy.

Petey came ALIVE. 🥹

He carried it everywhere. He played. He got silly. For one of the first times, we weren't watching a dog who had been surviving.

We were watching Peter have FUN.

He's done enough surviving. Now it's time for a family, a couch, a ridiculous collection of toys—and his brand new day. 🕷️❤️

✅ Support every step of the way

All we ask: you're within commuting distance to our vet in Kirkland, WA, and you've got love to give.

PUPDATE-ADOPTED!!

💗 EXCUSE ME, HAVE YOU SEEN HARLOW?

Because apparently we haven't been making a big enough deal about this face.

The eyes.
The little chocolate nose.
The scruffy blonde situation.
The fact that she looks like she might just sashay through the farmers market her leash in your hand... stopping occasionally to accept compliments from her fans - while you walk along sipping your coffee with the other hand.

What is she? Harlow is ridiculously cute. Full stop. Truth - nobody knows. Some terrier, maybe some poodle, possibly a tiny bit of Muppet.

What we do know is that Harlow is absolutely darling — and ready for someone who wants a little dog to be a big part of their life. She's young enough to happily head out for the day, small enough to take just about anywhere, and when you're done? She would very much like your lap back, thank you.

🐾 1½ years old | 13–15 lbs
💗 Spayed + vaccinated
🐶 Loves canine friends and great with kids
🚗 Adventure-sized
🛋️ Olympic-level cuddler

Come on. LOOK AT HER. 💕

This little scene-stealer finally gets the whole spotlight. 💕

If Harlow isn't your girl, SHARE her. Somewhere out there is a person who doesn't yet realize they're missing this face from their life.

✈️ SHE TRADED RUNWAYS FOR TRAILWAYS. 🌲

💼 ...and landed her dream job.

Amelia, the self-appointed Assistant Farm Manager at her foster's rescue farm.

Every morning begins with her daily rounds—checking in on the donkeys, goats, cats, the resident alpaca, and her fellow rescue dogs before heading out to patrol the trails. It's a position she proudly gave herself, and one she takes very seriously.

Today, Amelia is a confident, affectionate, well-adjusted young dog who loves outdoor adventures, having a purpose, and being part of whatever is happening. She has all the intelligence and athleticism you'd expect from a young herding breed, but settles beautifully after a day of exploring and simply enjoys being with her people—even sleeping on the bed with her foster's son.

🐾 About 1½ years old
🌲 Loves hiking, exploring & running
🐕 Thrives with other dogs and kids
🐴 Wonderful with donkeys, goats, cats & even an alpaca
💙 Active, intelligent & affectionate
🏡 Secure 6' fenced yard required
🚫 No apartments or townhomes

Her "job" may be supervising the farm these days, but Amelia doesn't need livestock to be happy. She simply loves having a purpose and being included in everyday life.

Yes...she IS that airport dog. ❤️

Today, that's simply where her story began.

Now she's navigating toward the only thing still missing...a forever family. ❤️

Please share. Even if Amelia's forever family isn't yours, your share might help the right family discover Amelia.
