This simple change in the way you get out of your car can save lives — of cyclists, drivers and passengers. Here’s how to do it, and why it’s so effective.

I have a couple of interesting news articles I am posting first one is a map study of bike accidents within the state:

Washington has a reputation for embracing bicycles – a national study has even ranked Washington as the most bicycle-friendly state in the United States for eight years in a row. Although fatalities and serious injury collisions among bicyclists have decreased in recent years, the fact remains tha...

As some of you know, there was a cyclist killed last week at the intersection of SE 56th St and East Lake Sammamish. I (Karen Behm) know nothing about how it happened, but it is a reminder to all of us to pay attention to our surroundings as we navigate through town via car, bus, bike, feet, skateboard etc.

Please put the phones away (even pedestrians), unplug, look and listen.

At Monday's (17-Apr) council meeting they'll consider studying putting a signal including pedestrian crossing at "Three Trails Crossing", the intersection of Juniper, Rainier, and Gilman where the East Lake Sammamish Trail ends in Issaquah. The signal would be largely funded and constructed by a developer who already has to rework the driveway to Pogacha (but who is also seeking an exemption from the current development moratorium). Sounds complicated, doesn't it?

The big win for pedestrians would be having a signalized crossing directly from the ELST to the Rainier Trail, the Maple-Juniper Trail, and the Gilman Edible Landscape Trail. This is a project that has been in the murky depths of the city transportation plan for decades yet has never gotten close to being designed.

Attend the meeting if you can (or watch on tv or online) and let your council members know what you think!
