Local Questers Add Another Improvement to Mt. Hope One-Room Schoolhouse
INDIANOLA, Iowa — Another item has been checked off the Mt. Hope “to-do list” thanks to the continued efforts of the Indianola Chapter of THE QUESTERS, General Joseph Warren #832.
This week, chapter members installed eight narrative panels inside Mt. Hope, the one-room schoolhouse museum located on the grounds of the Warren County Historical Society’s Heritage Village.
The members of General Joseph Warren #832 adopted the care of Mt. Hope in 2018. Since then, members have steadily worked through a list of improvements aimed at preserving the historic schoolhouse and enhancing the experience for visitors.
Chapter President Donna Hallstrom said the installation of permanent signage is an important step in helping visitors better appreciate the building and its place in local history.
“Our intention in adding permanent signage is to provide visitors with a better understanding of the significance of the one-room schoolhouse, give a history lesson in public education and to preserve the story of a local treasure,” Hallstrom explained.
The project reflects the broader mission of THE QUESTERS, a nonprofit organization with chapters throughout the United States and Canada. Questers are dedicated to keeping history alive through preservation, restoration, and historical education by bringing together people who share a passion for history and supporting projects that protect historic places, significant objects, and our shared cultural heritage.
With eight new panels now in place, the Questers have marked another accomplishment off their Mt. Hope to-do list — and taken another step toward preserving this special place.
