We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Urbandale Fire Department for their t-shirt fundraising efforts and $1,000 donation to our organization in light of PTSD awareness month.

"We chose the 10-42 project as they have the same beliefs, values and principles we believe in," shared Cory with the Urbandale FD. "They have first hand experiences with mental health in first responders. The 10-42 project is what the first responder community needs and we are proud to assist them in anyway possible."

10-42 Project would not and cannot exist without financial support from those that believe in our mission. If you are interested in donating or getting involved, please message us or contact us at [email protected].

A few pictures from Lake Rathbun yesterday.

Our outdoor activities program is a vital component of our organization, providing a safe haven for first responders and their loved ones to unwind, connect, and find healing among like-minded individuals.

We believe that healing happens in community, and our goal is to guide people out of isolation and into experiences that foster restoration and hope.

As a 100% donor-supported organization, we rely on the generosity of individuals like you to continue our work. Visit our website or reach out for a personal meeting to learn more about partnering with us.

We need your help!

New Episode!
We sit down with Joe and Christina to talk about what really happens to first responders over time and why the people who help everyone else still need a place to process their own trauma. We break down compassion fatigue, confidentiality, and what therapy actually looks like when your life has been shaped by the uniform.
• Joe and Christina’s paths into counseling and why lived experience matters
• Compassion fatigue as emotional numbness and hardened hearts
• Grounding, mindfulness, and distress tolerance skills to stay present
• Dark humor in first responder culture and where it helps or harms
• The Public Servant Program at Clearbrook Counseling Professionals for helpers and their families
• Confidentiality fears and why private therapy is not tied to departments
• What a first session feels like and why it is not an interrogation
• Counseling as values work rather than advice or forced emotion
• Scheduling realities, faster access through PSP, and telehealth options
Remember, no one walks alone.

Why First Responders Need More Than War Stories

Trauma swapping is one of those habits that feels supportive in the moment, then quietly keeps the whole nervous system on high alert. We sit down with Rick and Monique from Real Connections Counseling and Coaching to name what’s actually happening when first responders start one-upping each other’s worst calls and why that “instant relief” can turn into rumination, anger, isolation, and relationship damage later. If you’ve ever left a shift, a bar, or a buddy conversation feeling weirdly stuck or keyed up, this one will hit home.
