What a fantastic start to our 2026 Farm Discovery Camp season!
More than 50 guests joined Warren County Farm Bureau at BA Family Farms for an afternoon of hands-on learning about pollinators, beekeeping, and regenerative agriculture.
Families enjoyed a story time before learning about the important role bees play in agriculture. They were able to get their hands on a beekeeping outfit as well as handle a smoker. Trent Butler and Mitch Anderson introduced participants to beekeeping tools, guided a pollinator activity, and helped youth create their own bees from popsicle sticks and fuzzy craft wire. The homemade pollinators then got to "pollinate" flowers using cheese puff crumbs! A favorite activity for many was tasting fresh honey straight from the farm.
Guests also examined a honeycomb up close, observed live bees in action, held meat chicks, toured the farm, and visited a mature beehive that had been captured from a tree on the property.
A special thank you to Trent and Mitch for opening their farm to our community. Both are Warren County Farm Bureau members and strong supporters of our Ag in the Classroom program. Earlier this spring, Trent visited a local classroom as a guest speaker and even brought members of his poultry flock to help students learn about animal agriculture firsthand.
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make our first Farm Discovery Camp of the season such a success. We look forward to seeing you at future camps throughout the summer!
