LIHEAP applications start October 1, 2026! Priority households including seniors (60+), people with disabilities, families with children age 5 and under, and households facing utility shutoff or low propane levels may apply first. All other eligible households can apply beginning November 1, 2026.

To apply, be sure to bring:
• Proof of household income for the previous 30 days
• Social Security cards for all household members
• Heat and/or electric bills
• Lease/rental agreement or receipt/Proof of homeownership

Assistance is available for electric, natural gas, propane, and furnace-related emergencies.

🚗 Ride United: Free Lyft Rides for Essential Needs

United Way of Central Iowa is offering free Lyft rides to help residents of Polk, Dallas & Warren Counties get to essential services like:
• Medical appointments
• Job interviews & work
• Food pantries
• Housing & legal services
• School, daycare, library access

How it works:
1. Call 211 and ask for Ride United Central Iowa
2. 211 checks eligibility
3. A Lyft ride is dispatched if no other transportation is available
