Umoja Partnership In Chulaimbo, Kenya, at least 20% of the school-aged children have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS and other diseases.

We are a partnership of many faiths and cultures from two continents, united in our service to change lives by keeping orphaned and vulnerable children in western Kenya in school. The vision of the Umoja Project is to develop a compassionate and comprehensive network of care which responds to the needs of these children by:

- Supporting children and their families through broad-based services;
- Building the long-term capacity of families, communities, and local faith-based organizations to implement, coordinate, and sustain services for children; and
- Strengthening linkages among faith-based and community-based service providers to ensure local support is coordinated and effective. Our partnership model enables our two coalitions to build on respective strengths and resources while working together to build a strong support system for the children. Members of each coalition provide education and advocacy in their respective congregations, denominations, governmental structures and larger communities, as well as mobilize the resources necessary to support the Umoja Project.

A LOOK BACK AT A SPECIAL VISIT TO LWALA KADAWA! ❤️

A couple of weeks ago, we were honored to welcome Mama Rachel Ruto, the First Lady of the Republic of Kenya, to Lwala Kadawa Comprehensive School. Her visit was a memorable moment for our school community, bringing hope, encouragement, and a generous show of support for our students.

During her visit, Mama Rachel Ruto donated grains, shoes, and blankets to support the well-being of our children. These generous gifts are a meaningful contribution toward meeting their needs and creating a more supportive learning environment. 👟🛏️🌾

We remain deeply grateful for her kindness and for taking the time to visit and support our learners. Such gestures remind us of the importance of standing together to nurture, empower, and inspire the next generation. ❤️

Lunch time at Agulu Comprehensive School! 🫘🍵

Every school day, 225 Umoja students receive a nutritious school lunch - which is part of our mission of changing lives by keeping children in school.

Across 21 partner schools, Umoja’s Food Security program provides daily school lunch to 5,453 orphaned and vulnerable children. For many, it’s their only meal of the day.

At Umoja, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive in a supportive environment. Providing school uniforms is one of the ways we are helping our learners feel confident, comfortable, and ready to pursue their dreams. 💙

Every visit represents a child or community member discovering something new. Every book borrowed opens the door to imagination, knowledge, and possibility.

Here’s a look at the library’s impact for September 2026:
✨ 984 library visits
330 library users
📚 326 books borrowed
4,195 books in the collection

And since the library opened here are the numbers:
38,089 total visits
1,547 total users
📚 8,058 books borrowed

These numbers are more than statistics—they represent thousands of opportunities for vulnerable and orphaned children to learn, explore, dream, and grow.

We’re so grateful to everyone who has helped make the Reason 2 Smile Library a place where curiosity is encouraged and knowledge is shared. 💙
