Conversations around mental health, loneliness, and disconnection among adult men continue to grow, yet many of these challenges remain unspoken. Research continues to show that strong relationships and social support can make a real difference. In many cases, a simple check-in from a brother can go a long way.
As we approach May, Mental Health Awareness Month, we are reminded that brotherhood does not end at graduation. Phi Sigma Kappa is founded on a lifelong commitment to living the Golden Rule through friendship, integrity, service, and care for one another.
In that spirit, Phi Sigma Kappa has partnered with Half a Sorrow Foundation and our 2025 Distinguished Alumnus, Dennis Gillan (West Virginia ’85), to offer QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training and certification at no cost for alumni. This one-hour, nationally recognized program equips participants to recognize signs of emotional distress, ask direct and caring questions, and connect others with appropriate support.
While QPR includes su***de prevention content, the focus is on everyday moments. It is about showing up for brothers, friends, and family before a crisis escalates.
