SPJ has announced its 2026-27 Board of Directors and four newly elected regional coordinators following SPJ26 in Columbus, Ohio.

The new leadership team will help guide SPJ’s work to defend press freedom, support journalists and promote ethical journalism in the year ahead.

A historic moment for SPJ and journalism ethics.

SPJ members have voted overwhelmingly to approve revisions to the SPJ Code of Ethics, with 93% voting in favor. The results were announced today during the closing membership meeting at SPJ26 in Columbus, Ohio, following approval by the SPJ Board of Directors on Sept. 25.

The updated Code preserves SPJ’s four foundational principles — Seek Truth and Report It, Minimize Harm, Act Independently, and Be Accountable and Transparent — while addressing the evolving challenges of journalism, including artificial intelligence, synthetic content, misinformation and disinformation, verification, source transparency and more.

This milestone reflects months of work by SPJ’s Ethics Committee and input from journalists, educators, ethics scholars, SPJ members and the public.

A new chapter for the SPJ Code of Ethics — and for the future of ethical journalism.

🎉 Congratulations to Hagit Limor, recipient of the 2026 Wells Memorial Key, SPJ’s highest member honor. She was honored Friday at the President’s Reception during in Columbus, Ohio.

A longtime SPJ leader and president of the SPJ Foundation, Limor has devoted nearly two decades to advancing journalism and SPJ’s mission. As SPJ national president, she revamped the Ethics Committee and initiated the effort that ultimately led to the organization’s revised Code of Ethics, adopted in 2014.

A former investigative reporter and anchor, Limor is a 10-time Emmy Award winner and University of Cincinnati journalism professor. Colleagues call her a “volunteer’s volunteer” and a “leader’s leader” whose service has made SPJ stronger.

The Wells Memorial Key honors exceptional service to SPJ and its mission.

Nicole DeCriscio Bowe was sworn in today as the 110th national president of SPJ during the President’s Reception at SPJ26 in Columbus, Ohio.

DeCriscio is the first DePauw alumna to serve as national president. She succeeds Chris R. Vaccaro after serving as vice president over the last year.

A longtime SPJ leader and journalist, DeCriscio has worked as a reporter, photographer, designer and editor and most recently served as founding executive editor of a nonprofit local newspaper in Indiana.

As president, she will focus on defending press freedom, strengthening connections among members and chapters, fostering a welcoming organization and strengthening SPJ’s finances and systems.

“Let’s lead boldly, connect deeply and sustain SPJ’s future together,” DeCriscio said.
