Short History:
Built in 1965, 100 North Main is the tallest building in Memphis, Tennessee, at 430 feet and 37 floors. Robert Lee Hall designed it, the same architect behind Clark Tower and Patterson Hall at the University of Memphis. It is a taller, near copy of the 633 Building in downtown Milwaukee. For years it was a focal point of the Memphis riverfront, with tenants drawn from the lawyers and title companies working around the courts.

A revolving restaurant sat on the roof under names including the Top of the 100 Club and Pinnacle. A Japanese garden behind it closed in 1971. The base is a multilevel parking garage with street-level retail. From the river the tower carried a large illuminated UP Bank sign until late 2005, when Union Planters was acquired by Regions Bank. The sign came down and was never replaced. The bank's actual headquarters had been at 67 Madison Avenue, and later at 6200 Poplar Avenue, not in this tower.
