We provide employment services, resources for independent living, vision services, as well as advocacy and education—all free of charge for our consumers.

Beyond Barriers has offices in Pratt, Dodge City and Hutchinson, and serves consumers across 15 counties: Harvey, McPherson, Reno, Pratt, Kingman, Harper, Barber, Kiowa, Clark, Stafford, Edwards, Ness, Hodgeman, Comanche, and Ford.

Disabilty Mentoring Day (DMD) is coming up on October 21 in Dodge City and
Hutchinson and on October 28 in Pratt! 🎉

This is an important event not only for the hundreds of high school
students who get hands-on job experience, but also for the mentors
and businesses who are connected with future employees.

At the Hutchinson Carlos O'Kelly's , DMD is a longstanding tradition, with one employee hired from the event having worked there 15 years.

Kitchen Manager Brook Neufeld looks forward to the event every year, and is grateful to work with leadership (Thrive Restaurant Group ) that values and invests in everyone's potential.

Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) is coming up on October 21 in Dodge City and Hutchinson and on October 28 in Pratt! 🎉

For students with disabilities, DMD is a chance to explore careers firsthand, ask questions and discover possibilities they may not have considered before. But the experience can be just as meaningful for the mentors who welcome them into their workplaces.

At Hutchinson Community College ’s Cosmetology & Barber School, DMD gives visiting students a firsthand look at the industry while giving HCC students an opportunity to strengthen their own communication and people skills.

Instructor Wesley DeWitt says the experience can create “aha moments” for everyone involved.

“It’s a great opportunity for self-growth, self-discovery and self-reflection. We just want people to feel like, ‘Oh my gosh, we belong!" 😍

Check out success story from Independent Living Specialist Cammie Miller in our Pratt location! 🙌

"One of my consumers had been struggling for several months to obtain Direct Support Worker (DSW) services. He wasn't sure who to contact, and the process had become overwhelming.

His goal was to find a reliable DSW who could provide the support he needed to remain as independent as possible. I worked with him to research his options and made calls alongside him until we discovered that, because he was on the Physical Disability (PD) Waiver, his services could be coordinated through his Managed Care Organization (MCO).

Once we established the correct pathway, I helped him search for, interview, and hire a DSW who was a good fit for his needs. The outcome was that the consumer was finally connected with the services he had been trying to access for months.

He now has a Direct Support Worker in place, greater confidence in navigating the system, and a better understanding of the resources available to him. Seeing his relief and knowing he no longer had to face the process alone made this a particularly rewarding success story."
