Community & Collaboration: We are first and foremost focused on promoting and meeting the needs of Southern oyster farms.

We are a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization, connecting communities and providing resources to support oyster farmers, cultivate thriving communities, promote healthy waters and celebrate good food in the southern United States. Mission: Oyster South is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that connects communities and provides resources to foster the success of oyster farming in the Southern Uni

ted States. Vision: To spotlight and expand the environmental and economic benefits of oyster farming in the South, which will increase sustainable seafood production, improve the health of our waters, increase the prosperity of our coastal communities and elevate appreciation for Southern farm-raised oysters. But by being inclusive of all the industry’s multiple stakeholders, we can work together as a community. This lets us share information, pool knowledge and experiences and support and drive practical research that seeks creative solutions to challenges. Environmental & Cultural Conservation: We are committed to embracing, demonstrating and enhancing Southern oyster farming’s sustainable and environmentally friendly features. We are equally committed to honoring and protecting the oyster’s vibrant role in the region’s foodways and its water-working heritage.

Every Landlocked ticket directly supports the work of Oyster South year round.
Peer to Pier funds travel for Southern oyster farmers to connect with growers, chefs, and industry partners across the country. The Oyster South Symposium brings together producers, researchers, distributors, and chefs to tackle the real challenges facing Southern aquaculture. Our community programs keep that network strong between events. And our storytelling initiatives – including ShellBound docuseries – help bring the world of Southern oyster farming to wider audiences.
Landlocked is a really good afternoon. It’s also how Oyster South keeps the work going all year. 🦪

"The oyster is a positive symbol – this is what guides us. This is what unites us."
Meet Beth and Bill Walton. Beth is the Executive Director of Oyster South and Bill is a shellfish aquaculture coordinator at VIMS. Between them, they've spent decades making the case for Southern oysters — and oysters are the reason they ended up in the same room twenty-something years ago.
They're also two of the people behind ShellBound, our award-winning documentary now streaming on YouTube.
