One of the things that has been reinforced over the past nine years is that every season of growth brings new opportunities—and new challenges.
As Sister-Corps has grown, we've occasionally reached points where we needed to stop, evaluate where we were, and decide what needed to happen next. Every single time, those decisions have strengthened our organization, made us safer, and allowed us to serve more people.
This is one of those moments.
When Sister-Corps began, we owned very few tools. Volunteers simply brought what they had. As our projects grew in size and number, we added more tools, more specialized equipment, tool trailers, and eventually our Meal Team trailer.
Those trailers have traveled thousands of miles behind the personal trucks of some incredibly generous
volunteers. To every person who has hauled a trailer across states, through mountains, in rain, wind, and heat—thank you. You have literally carried Sister-Corps forward.
But we've reached the point where asking volunteers to provide not only their time, but also a heavy-duty tow vehicle, the insurance, the maintenance, the fuel, and the wear and tear on their personal truck, is no longer the best long-term solution.
As our trailers become larger and heavier, we also have to think about towing capacity, braking power, reliability, scheduling, and safety. We owe it to our volunteers—and to the organization—to plan ahead.
So, the Board has begun pursuing what we believe is the next logical step in Sister-Corps' growth: a dependable heavy-duty Sister-Corps truck—likely an F-350 or 3500 series—that can safely and reliably transport our trailers wherever they are needed.
***Here's the exciting part.
Three generous donors have already expressed their confidence in this vision by earmarking nearly $40,000 toward the purchase of this truck.
Their generosity gives us an incredible head start.
We estimate we need approximately $20,000 more to purchase a solid, dependable, low-mileage truck that will serve Sister-Corps for many years. Our hope is to raise those funds without taking away from the donations that support our day-to-day projects and disaster response.
