The Montrose Center was founded in 1978 as Montrose Counseling Center to address the gap in accessible and affirming mental health services for gay men and lesbians. The Center was one of the first to respond to the emergence of HIV and AIDS in the 1980s and continues to provide HIV counseling, case management, housing, and emergency financial assistance to those living with HIV. Over the years, w

e have expanded our services to include intensive outpatient treatment for alcohol and substance use recovery, violence survivor services regarding domestic violence, sexual assault, hate crimes and human trafficking through our Anti-Violence Program, HIV/STI community health screenings, education and outreach, and programs designed specifically to meet the needs of youth and seniors. Our LGBT Switchboard 24-hour help line is also accessible 24-hours a day for crisis intervention, peer phone counseling, and information/referral. The Center regularly provides health education and disease prevention outreach to more than 40,000 individuals each year, and offers training to schools, corporations and healthcare professionals on these topics as well as general LGBTQ+ diversity issues. Over the last 40+ years, the Montrose Center has become Houston's hub for the LGBTQ+ community, regularly organizing events and programing in our first floor community center. With everything from free wellness and educational classes to meetings and events hosted by dozens of other social, civic and nonprofit groups, there is literally something for everyone happening at the Center nearly every day

The Center is an affiliated agency of United Way of Greater Houston and accredited by The Joint Commission in behavioral health. It became the first Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) in Texas and remains the only CCBHC in the nation with a focus on LGBTQ+ individuals and people living with HIV. We have an Institutional Review Board [IRB] that must approve any and all surveys conducted through the Montrose Center and its electronic outlets (website, social media, email, etc.). Please contact Rick Musquiz at 713.529.0037 or [email protected]. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are thrilled that you are part of the political process and a registered voter, but any partisan political comments will be removed.

Last night, our community gathered to remember Persia Amarra Conway. 🤍

Surrounded by family, friends, and chosen family, one thing was clear: Persia was deeply loved, and she will not be forgotten. We stood together in grief and in love, and in a promise to keep caring for one another.

To everyone who came and held space for her: thank you. Her name and her light stay with us.

Rest in power, Persia. 🕯️

Yesterday we came together to honor Persia Amarra Conway and to stand with the people who loved her. Her mother, Michelle, spoke to every parent of a trans child:
"Fight for your child. It is worth every breath in your body."

Persia was true to herself. She was loved. We will keep saying her name.

To her family, her friends, and everyone who gathered for her: thank you. We grieve with you, and we are not letting go.

"Persia Amarra Conway was loved. Persia Amarra Conway mattered. Persia Amarra Conway deserved to grow old, to chase her dreams, and to live the beautiful life she envisioned for herself."
-Persia's mother, Michelle

Our hearts are broken. Last week, Houston lost Persia Amarra Conway, a 33-year-old transgender woman, far too soon. To those who loved her, she was kind-hearted, funny, fearless, and a light in every room.

Violence against transgender women, especially trans women of color, continues at unacceptable rates, and no one should carry that grief alone. Her mother promised to speak her name. So will we.

We invite you to gather with us to remember Persia.

Tuesday, June 2
Doors open at 6 PM
401 Branard Street, Houston, TX 77006
1st Floor, Rooms 106 & 107

"Persia Amarra Conway fue amada. Persia Amarra Conway importaba.

Happy LGBTQ+ Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈

Pride is joy, and it is also care. The love, the chosen family, and the people who show up for each other when it counts.

This year our theme is Lifesavers+, because being there for someone can be everything. Sometimes it's a text answered. A door left open. Someone who looks at you and says I see you, exactly as you are.

For nearly five decades, the Montrose Center has been that door for LGBTQ+ Houston. If you're celebrating loud this month, we're right there with you. If this month is harder than it looks, we've got you.

Happy Pride from the Montrose Center 🏳️‍🌈

Life at Law Harrington looks like a beach ball passed from chair to chair, joy bouncing right along with it. It looks like ballroom dancing, friends moving to the rhythm together. It looks like a birthday celebration with the whole room singing along. This is what community looks like when we show up for each other.

Keep an eye out for our upcoming Pride events, and come celebrate with us.

All programs and services at Law Harrington, including the diner, are open to seniors 60+.
