HIV and Aging Coalition, Houston

HIV and Aging Coalition, Houston HIV and Aging Coalition, Houston was established in 2013 to address the major issues that affect those living with HIV over fifty years old.

Ending social isolation, education, and connecting members to services are the organization’s goals. We hope to educate our community and agencies that serve us about issues that affect us and services that are available and or necessary. The second reason is to help break down the social isolation many people living with HIV face. The Coalition is a gathering of people living with HIV. There is n

o formal membership. While we tend to have presentations that affect those that are aging many of our presentations are valuable for anyone that hopes to live a healthy life living with HIV; there is no age limit. We never check for your age and welcome anyone interested in our topics. We hold our monthly meetings at the Montrose Center, the Center is involved in our organization as a sponsor. This does not mean that we are a part of the Montrose Center but we do operate independently under their umbrella, including fiscally. The Importance of Support Services
Living with HIV presents certain challenges, no matter what your age. But older people with HIV may face different issues than their younger counterparts, including greater social isolation and loneliness. Stigma is also a particular concern among older people living with HIV. Stigma negatively affects people’s quality of life, self-image, and behaviors, and may prevent them disclosing their HIV status or seeking HIV care.

A little Joke, enjoy

4 ladies meet for their 30th class reunion.
One goes to get food while the other 3 start talking about their successful sons.
The first lady says her son studied economics, became a banker, and is so rich he gave his best friend a Ferrari.
The second lady says her son became a pilot, started his own airline, and became so rich he gave his best friend a jet.
The third lady says her son became an engineer, started his own development company, and became so rich he build his best friend a castle.
About that time the fourth lady returns with a plate full of food and asks what the buzz is about.
The other ladies tell her that they've been discussing how successful their sons have became and ask her about her son.
She says that her son is gay and he works in a Gay Bar.
The other 3 say she must be very disappointed with her son for not becoming successful.
"Oh no !!" she says "he is doing very well."
"Last week on his birthday he got a Ferrari, a jet, and a castle, from 3 of his boyfriends."
