June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and recognize the importance of creating spaces where everyone can belong, contribute, and thrive.

In STEM, diverse perspectives are not just valuable, they are essential. Innovation grows when people are welcomed as their full selves, encouraged to ask questions, and supported as they explore their interests and talents.

At AstraFemina, we believe every girl deserves to see a future for herself in STEM. That includes seeing role models who reflect the many identities, experiences, and stories that make our communities stronger.

This Pride Month, we celebrate LGBTQ+ scientists, engineers, technologists, mathematicians, educators, mentors, and students who continue to shape the future.

Representation matters. Belonging matters. Pride matters.

AstraFemina is proud to support Girl Scouts of the Green & White Mountains’ FutureFest by helping connect Girl Scouts with inspiring women in STEM.

At this year’s event, participants will explore hands-on activities, ask questions, and discover real-world skills across a wide range of career fields, from microscopes and vital signs to coding, weather forecasting, emergency services, and more.

We are excited for Caroline Soechting to share her STEM journey and encourage girls to imagine the many paths available to them.

Because sometimes, one story can help a girl see a future she never considered before.

Kids in our City of Norfolk Government hands-on STEM program met Captain Wendy Lawrence, a former naval aviator and NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration astronaut, as she shared about her career and the importance of STEM education.

Thanks to Verizon for sponsoring this program and AstraFemina for connecting our students with inspiring STEM leaders!

AstraFemina is excited to partner with Artemis Virtual Academy for their Virtual STEM Club on May 27, 2026, featuring our Vice President - Dr. Jan Davis.

This virtual program gives rising middle school girls the chance to explore STEM career pathways, ask questions, and connect with an inspiring role model who has helped shape the world of space exploration.

Opportunities like this matter because students need to see what is possible. When girls hear directly from women in STEM, they can begin to imagine themselves in those same spaces one day.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day is a time for reflection, gratitude, and remembrance. We honor the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of those who served and never came home.

At AstraFemina, we also recognize the families, communities, and future generations shaped by that sacrifice. May we continue building a future worthy of their service.

Today is the International Day for Biological Diversity, a reminder that life on Earth is beautifully connected.

From forests and oceans to pollinators, plants, animals, microbes, and ecosystems we rarely see, biodiversity supports the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the health of our planet.

It is also a powerful reminder of why STEM matters. Biologists, ecologists, environmental scientists, conservationists, data analysts, engineers, and so many others work every day to understand and protect the natural world.

When girls see women leading in these fields, they see that they can be part of protecting the future too.

Every species matters. Every ecosystem matters. Every curious future scientist matters.

Do you know a woman in STEM who would make an incredible role model?

AstraFemina is growing our community of women in STEM who are willing to share their stories, experiences, and career journeys with girls. Our members help students see what is possible by showing them the many paths STEM can take.

Whether you are a scientist, engineer, technologist, researcher, educator, or work in another STEM-related field, your story matters.

Not in STEM yourself? You can still help. Tag someone who inspires you, share this post, or send it to a woman whose journey could encourage the next generation.

Together, we can help girls see themselves in STEM.

AstraFemina is growing our network of partner organizations so we can reach more girls with meaningful STEM role models.

We partner with schools, nonprofits, youth organizations, libraries, camps, Girl Scout troops, community programs, and other groups that serve girls and young women. Through these partnerships, AstraFemina connects girls with women in STEM who can share their stories, answer questions, and help students see what is possible.

AstraFemina provides speakers at no cost to partner organizations. Events may be virtual or in person, depending on the location, event size, and speaker availability.

We are especially interested in opportunities focused on girls and young women, though mixed-audience events may be considered depending on the program and its goals.

If your organization hosts STEM, STEAM, career exploration, leadership, or youth empowerment events, we would love to connect!

Help us bring more STEM role models to more girls. Help us inspire tomorrow's STEM stars! 🌟

There is something powerful about looking back and realizing how much support shaped who you became. For many women in STEM, confidence did not appear out of nowhere. It was built through encouragement, opportunity, and the quiet but steady belief of people who made it feel normal to succeed.

In this blog, our Treasurer and Astronaut, Susan Helms, reflects on her own early experiences with math and science and the environment that helped her thrive. Her story is both personal and eye-opening, highlighting a truth we cannot ignore: not every girl receives the same support, and that gap still matters today.

What follows is not just a reflection, but a call to action. It is a reminder that when we create the right conditions, girls do not just participate in STEM. They excel, lead, and redefine what is possible.

Military children grow up learning resilience, adaptability, and courage from an early age. Through programs like this one with Rosie Riveters, they also get the opportunity to explore STEM in hands-on, confidence-building ways that remind them their futures are full of possibility.

We’re honored to support this event featuring Wendy Lawrence, whose journey from the U.S. Navy to space continues to inspire the next generation of explorers, engineers, innovators, and leaders.

Every child deserves the chance to see themselves in STEM.
