This Sunday, October 25, Keren Tischler leads the service, "We Can Do Hard Things. And Yet, and Yet. . ."

When in your life have you felt or observed that you, that we, can do hard things? What did it feel like? This week, we look to seasonal cycles, zen stories and personal experience to explore the courage it takes to do hard things, and how some of the hardest things, such as leaning into fear and embracing life’s paradoxes, involve at least as much being as doing.

The word “Love” appears at the very center of the UUA’s new statement of core values, as represented in the image that now hangs on the wall of KUUF’s social hall. The language of love also stands at the very beginning of KUUF’s congregational covenant: “We build our fellowship on a foundation of love and covenant with one another. . . ” This resonance between our local community and the national denomination is good to see, but what does it really mean to place love at the core of our religious community, in practice?

“Conversations with the Bible”

Friday, October 16, 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. at KUUF

Join Rev. Bruce for this new adult religious exploration opportunity – bible study from a Unitarian Universalist perspective! BYOS (Bring Your Own Sandwich) – bible texts will be provided. All are welcome; no prior knowledge or experience is required or expected. We’ll
begin at the beginning, exploring the stories of creation in the opening chapter of Genesis.

This Sunday, October 11, join us for the Forum, "Share Your Memorable Experiences on Isle Royale."

This Forum will be a bit different as KUUF members will be the presenters!

At least a dozen of us have worked for, lived on, or visited Isle Royale National Park.

Those willing to share will have 3-5 minutes (depending upon how many volunteer). Please send an email to [email protected] BY FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9, if you have a story, adventure, poem, etc. that you’d like to share about Isle Royale. She will assemble the order of speakers alphabetically by last name. Photos are welcome and can be sent to Joan to display.

Come join us from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, for the very 1st World Singing Day (WSD) held in Houghton, MI at the Keweenaw UU Fellowship (KUUF) at 604 Bridge Street.

This world-wide sing-along is for everyone! People of all ages and all singing abilities will be welcome to join in a celebration of our global family through the international language of music. Come with family, friends, neighbors or just yourself and feel free to
bring along a water bottle and your enthusiasm! Song leaders will guide us through pre- recorded singalongs and teach us some new songs to share together. Assorted percussion instruments will be available and more are always welcome. There will also be water and cups available on site.

Founded in 2012 by Colorado musician and Up With People alum Scott Johnson, World Singing Day is not religious or political, and encourages people to put aside their differences and celebrate what we all share as human beings. World Singing Day is for
everyone, regardless of your race, color, national origin, religion, s*x, gender identity, s*xual orientation, disability, singing ability, and age. World Singing Day is not a competition, and no rehearsals are required. Anyone can join in the fun so please plan to join us Saturday, Oct 17, from 2-3 at KUUF.

This Sunday, October 4, Pastor Bucky Beach leads the service, "On Forgiveness."

How many times am I obligated to forgive? Once? Twice maybe? But three times just may be my limit… Is there a decent religious teaching on that? And what would a Chimney Sweep know about forgiveness anyway?

Potluck lunch to follow the service. All are welcome.

We will be celebrating the Harvest and kindly ask everyone to bring a dish or beverage that may reflect the seasonal change. We are also asking those who have a garden to bring any produce that may still be growing to the potluck because we will be donating these items to the CLK Food Pantry in Calumet. If you do not have a garden but would like to donate, please consider bringing shelf stable food items we can include. We look forward to celebrating the Harvest time of year with everyone.

Fall UU Retreat

Join fellow UUs from Marquette, Escanaba, and Petoskey that is being held at the Garden Retreat Center in Garden, MI. The registration deadline is September 30th. Information about costs, food, and accommodation can be found by clicking on the registration link.

This retreat is a great way to ground yourself into your UU faith, rest and recuperate, and connect with our larger UU community.

You can attend the retreat in full or in part! You can register to stay for the entire duration, for part, or for the Saturday schedule of programming. If you won't be staying at the retreat center you can register for meals only, or even bring your own!

There is great programming scheduled including 2 optional book discussions, meditative sand garden creation, soul collage, programming led by our UUA regional staff QuianaDenae Perkins, singer/songwriter Phil Lynch, bonfire and singing, and more!
