We are so grateful to the amazing group that chose to volunteer at the Shelter last Sunday morning for Serve Day. 21 volunteers accomplished SO much in just a couple of hours. They fixed the roof of our storage shed and spruced it up, cleaned up our whole yard by weedwacking and raking, planted our flower bed, cleaned our Shelter vehicle, did some painting, stuffed envelopes and more! ❤️❤️❤️

We are SO excited to have been selected for a large grant through MSHDA for emergency shelter infrastructure improvements! With $223,807, we are significantly increasing the safety and longevity of the existing emergency shelter, as well as making it a more welcoming and comfortable space for survivors and reducing future monthly and unexpected expenses.

Lack of affordable, attainable housing is a huge barrier for survivors in Baraga County. Part of what we do here at the Shelter is housing advocacy with survivors, but also work on homelessness prevention, homeless response systems and policy change, and housing development planning. Survivors and their children deserve to be able to secure long term safe options to restart their lives.

June is National Healthy Homes Month — an opportunity to educate, raise awareness, motivate action, and build networks and partnerships in support of healthier home environments for everyone.

When abuse and violence are present, a home isn't healthy for the people who live there. 💜 Ending domestic violence will help create safer, healthier homes in our communities.

Currently in Baraga County, Personal Protection Orders (PPO) that are granted are generally served by local law enforcement. Victims then receive a bill for the service, with the amount owed varying depending on the distance traveled. This places a financial burden on those who are seeking protection from harm by their abusers. If service is delayed, survivors often struggle to have the PPO enforced in the meantime and in some cases, this can be lethal.
If you or someone you know is considering filing for a protective order, our advocates are here to help - just call 906-524-7078.

Survivors of domestic abuse urged state lawmakers Wednesday to pass legislation that would make PPO service free for those living in fear.
