The oldest play-based curriculum preschool in the Keweenaw!

We are a non-profit, cooperative preschool for children ages 3-5. 3-Year-Old Class:

Our play-based curriculum for three-year-olds focuses on child-led and open ended play, development of social skills, and learning to be part of a classroom setting. Hands-on experiences with the alphabet, geometric shapes, colors, science activities, show-and-tell, art projects, and music are an important part of

the daily routine in the three-year-old class. Children sing daily as a group and perform a music program for parents in December. Near the end of the school year, there is an art show for displaying many of the projects created by the children. Children have the opportunity for free play, circle time, group play, arts and crafts, and outdoor play/large muscle development. The classroom includes a dress-up play area, toy area, art area, blocks, a climber, and other activity areas. Painting and play dough are offered to the children regularly. The students play on an outdoor playground throughout the entire school year. Three-year-old classes are limited to 14 students to keep the student:teacher ratio at 7:1 or less. To be eligible for enrollment, children need to be three years old by December 1st of the school year. Children must be toilet-trained before school begins.

4-Year-Old Class:

The four-year-old class at Michigan Tech Preschool helps children gain kindergarten readiness skills and provides opportunities for socialization and fun. The four-year-old curriculum includes a variety of literacy and number experiences, hands-on science activities, cultural learning, daily art projects, and painting. Children have an opportunity to share with the group during show-and-tell time. Music is part of the daily routine in the four-year-old class; children sing daily as a group, and perform a music program for parents in December. Children have the opportunity for free play, group play, arts and crafts, and outdoor play/large muscle development. The classroom includes a dress-up play area, toy area, art area, blocks, and other activity areas. Circle-time is part of the daily schedule at Michigan Tech Preschool. Four-year-old classes are limited to 16 students to keep the student:teacher ratio at 8:1 or less. To be eligible for enrollment, children need to be four years old by December 1st of the school year. Children must be toilet-trained before school begins.

Afternoons with Mrs. Jarvis, a week in review😊
Another year in the books, and we are beyond grateful to know these students and families. Activities with students included practicing learning “stations” for kindergarten, making windsocks for catching a covered breeze, a number-search across the classroom, and a “moving on” concert and ceremony. The finale included popsicles and letting the classroom butterflies go. Happy Summer and thank you for a great year!

Mornings with Mrs. Jarvis, a week in review😊
Students enjoyed lots of “end of the year” preschool activities, including making windsocks to catch a breeze through a covered window, detective work to find numbers hidden throughout the classroom, practicing kindergarten learning “stations”, plus a lot of reading and play. The finale included a popsicle-filled, thought-provoking “moving on” ceremony and letting the classroom butterflies go! Happy Summer, and thank you students and families! We’ll miss you all!
