When you first join Rotary, you start as a Red Badge Member! ❤️

Rotary has a series of tasks designed to help new members get involved, build connections, and find their place within the club. Once those tasks are complete, they earn their BLUE BADGE! 💙

This milestone marks the transition from newer member to an engaged member of our Rotary family. While the process may take some members a few months and others a few years, the goal is the same: building relationships, finding opportunities to serve, and creating a sense of belonging. 🤝

We’re excited to introduce our new mentorship program to help support our Red Badgers along the way! Because Rotary is about more than just joining a club. It’s about finding your people, making connections, and living out Service Above Self. 💛💙

Hood River Rotarians were honored to welcome Rotary District 5100 Governor Renée Fontenot who inspired us with stories of Rotarians working together across national boundaries, removing obstacles to solve seemingly insurmountable problems and creating lasting change. This week’s engaging program was presented by Azariah Ozias, Native American Home-School Liason for the Columbia Gorge Indian Education Program, which supports Native students, builds understanding of Native communities, and equips educators with culturally responsive practices. .

Last week we got a visit from Scott Hege and Hank Sanders, candidates running for state representative. We got to hear what they stand for, change they’d like to see and ask questions that were important to us as voters!

One of the cool parts of Rotary is hearing from our weekly presenters that keep us in the know as a prominent community member. Want to get involved? Reach out and we’d love to have you join a lunch meeting and see the magic of the hood river rotary club!

🌎✨ Empowering the next generation of community leaders!

Interact Club and Rotary Youth Exchange are two impactful programs we’re proud to foster in our community. It’s so inspiring to see young adults get involved in community service, giving back, and making a difference right here at home and around the world! 💙💛

Studying abroad for a year is an unforgettable, life-changing experience that opens doors to new cultures, friendships, and perspectives. Through Rotary Youth Exchange, students have the opportunity to grow, explore, and become global citizens.

We’re proud to support the next generation of leaders and can’t wait to see where their journeys take them! 🌍✈️

This week’s speaker was Hood River Rotarian and President of the Columbia Gorge Skating Association, Mark Neumann. Mark is part of a group of community members who are working to bring a year-round indoor ice skating facility to the Gorge. Plans for the rink are well underway and fundraising is going strong! 🎨 This Week at Hood River Rotary: Welcoming Amy Gray!

Join us this Thursday as we welcome Hood River native Amy Gray, Executive Director of Arts in Education of the Gorge, for what promises to be an inspiring program about the power of art, education, mentorship, and helping young people feel seen and understood.

Amy’s roots run deep in our community. Born in Hood River and raised on Dee Highway, she attended Mid Valley Elementary, Wy’east Middle School, and Hood River Valley High School before heading to the University of Oregon to study art history.

For the past 20 years, Amy has worked on and off with the Portland Art Museum in its learning department, and she has spent the past decade with Arts in Education of the Gorge—nine years as Program Director and the past year as Executive Director.

Amy will dedicate her presentation to the late Bob Sullivan, her high school counselor, who encouraged her to attend college and showed her firsthand just how powerful it can be when a young person feels truly seen, supported, and understood.

We’re looking forward to hearing Amy share her passion, her story, and the important work Arts in Education of the Gorge is doing for students throughout our community.

We had a lovely annual summer picnic Thursday night down at the marina park! Our district governor Brenda Fling joined us to pass out some awards to our club members. Congrats Matt Rohn, Dianna Risley & Kevin Greenwood!

Huge thank you to all the Rotarians who helped make the picnic 🧺 come to life!
