Damián's parents weren't in the process of divorcing, but rather in the process of killing each other. When one of our leaders went to find them for evangelization, his mother had a knife in her hand, ready to kill her husband. Thanks to God's support and our leader, they were both reconciled and accepted the invitation to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. Damián and his little brother had experienced severe trauma from seeing their parents fight, as well as trauma from the way they were punished. Thanks to the Scholarship Program, they understood that one of the best things they could do was to ensure their children's future and education. Their lives and their family changed, and now Damián's father is a deacon at our church, and Damián (left) is one of the best students at his school.

Luis lived through very traumatic and difficult times as a child. These were reasons why he could have become anyone else, but not the normal, academically successful child he is today. Chiquimula has one of the worst drinking waters in the country. If someone were to drink that water, their health would automatically be affected. Several families in our scholarship program use that water not only to wash dishes but also to drink. Because of this, we have included in our benefits the monthly donation of bags of drinking water to them, and with this we not only improve the health of our families but also lower the costs of medical care, which have been high.

Many of the children in our Scholarship Program do not celebrate their birthdays, have vacations, enjoy a delicious Thanksgiving dinner, receive toys for Christmas, or expect the new year to bring them something new other than the usual routine. For them, the real celebration is when Reachout Ministries executives and the people who accompany them bring gifts, clothes, and hygiene items each year and take them on a trip to a tourist spot, to eat pizza, ice cream, play electronic games, or enjoy a delicious ice cream and share with them the love of Jesus Christ. That visit is what gives life to our Program and great joy to our church.
