So proud of our LCLA! We attended the state leadership workshop on Saturday and had our new officers installed as well as having 2 of our members installed as Palmetto State Literacy Association officers. We were also recognized for receiving the ILA Honor Award and the PSLA Honor Award; having received the PSLA Honor Award for a consecutive 20 years! Only one county had received it more. Our Laurens County Literacy Association is doing big things! Please join us and support our county in the fight for literacy for all. Kathy Maness, new PSLA Legislative Chair and Executive Director of Palmetto State Teachers Association, provided information about the State Budget at our PSLA Leadership meeting on Saturday. She noted the House of Representatives funded Dolly Parton's Imagination Library for year 2 at $6 million. This library sends a book each month to children from birth until 5 years old at no cost to the family. The Senate Finance Committee did not fund this program. Please get in touch with your Senator and ask him/her to fund this program to increase literacy in South Carolina. You can find your Senator at www.scstatehouse.gov.

We had a great time at STEAM on the Square this past weekend. We gave away lots of books! Our goal is to put a book in the hands of every child in Laurens County. If you’d like to help, join our wonderful organization! Ask me how.
