Whew! October was a busy month for the Hillsboro Lions! From community events and KidSight screenings to serving meals and supporting local organizations, we've been keeping busy finding ways to serve our community. That's what Lions do! 🦁
We also had the opportunity to learn about another amazing organization making a difference right here in our area! At our October meeting, we welcomed Bradie Schall, Development Director of Camp Circle Star, who shared how this nonprofit is creating fun, meaningful experiences for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
Located on 22 acres, Camp Circle Star offers campers ages 5 and up a place to have fun, make friendships, develop social skills, and enjoy new experiences in a supportive environment. With activities like swimming, fishing, a bounce house, and even a selfie room, there's something for everyone!
What makes this camp extra special is its one-on-one support for every camper, with each session limited to just 14 campers to provide a more personal experience. They offer weeklong camps, overnight stays, and Saturday programs that give caregivers a little break, too. 🥰
The camp serves approximately 300 campers each year, but keeping these programs going takes a lot of help!
Here's how YOU can make a difference:
🙋♀️ VOLUNTEER! Camp Circle Star needs volunteers ages 16 and up. It's a great opportunity for high school and college students, especially those needing practicum or fieldwork hours.
🧴 DONATE SUPPLIES! Items like sunscreen, towels, snacks, and other everyday essentials help keep camp running.
🎉 SUPPORT THEIR FUNDRAISERS! Their annual trivia night is coming up Friday, November 13, at The Moolah. The Hillsboro, Mo Lion's Club is proud to support this event as a sponsor! They also have a mouse race planned for the spring at Busch Stadium in the Redbird Suite.
