This year, we launched the Grow Getter Award, an annual honor presented at our Harvest Party to recognize a community member who is truly "sowing seeds for good" through urban agriculture. We are thrilled to announce that the inaugural recipient is Andre Davis, Community Liaison extraordinaire! 🎉
Andre's impact on our community began long before Growing High Point existed. When challenges arose on a vacant corner lot he owned, he transformed the space with something powerful: a garden. As it grew, the garden helped reclaim the neighborhood, provided fresh food, created paid work opportunities, and inspired others to grow and sell their own plants and produce.
As Growing High Point expanded, Andre was instrumental in establishing our 5 acres of urban farms. He has poured countless hours of hard work, dedication, and heart into developing and maintaining these spaces, and continues to do so today.
But what truly makes Andre special is his gift for connecting with people. Whether he's giving you a memorable nickname, asking about something you mentioned weeks ago, or surprising you with white cucumbers or ground cherries you've never tried, Andre makes everyone feel seen, valued, and welcome. Because of his extraordinary contributions to Growing High Point and our community, we're honored to announce that this award will now be renamed the Andre Davis Grow Getter Award. 💚
Please join us in congratulating Andre and thanking him for the many seeds of kindness, opportunity, and community he continues to plant every day.
